God's Word

A letter from Paul to the church in Rome

Romans 13:8-10 CSB

8 Do not owe anyone anything, except to love one another, for the one who loves another has fulfilled the law. 9 The commandments, Do not commit adultery; do not murder; do not steal; do not covet; and any other commandment, are summed up by this commandment: Love your neighbor as yourself. 10 Love does no wrong to a neighbor. Love, therefore, is the fulfillment of the law.

Talk

Jesus loves perfectly! His death and resurrection is the best example of love. We love because He first loved us (1 John 4:19).

How does Jesus show us His love? What is the greatest commandment? Is it easy or hard for you to love your neighbor as yourself? How can you show love to everyone you meet this week?

Explore

Younger Kids: Decorate 2 paper hearts. On one write, "Love God." One the other write, "Love others." Hang them somewhere to remind you of God's commands.

Older Kids: Explore the 10 Commandments from Luther's Small Catechism. What do the first three have in common? (loving God) What do 4-10 have in common? (loving others)

Pray+ Bless

Prayer: Jesus, You are perfect love. Help us to love like you more and more every day. Thank you for keeping the commandments perfectly and always forgiving us. Amen.

Blessing: Circle up as a household. Pick someone to start the blessing. They say, "Jesus loves us. And that means me (place a hand on your chest). And that means you (place your other hand on the shoulder of the person next to you)". Pass the blessing by repeating those words and actions. When the blessing makes it back to the first person, they say, "Go and bless the world."
