PROGRAM

Garden of Love

Jacob TV | B. 1951

Dillon Hauke, flute

Dutch ‘avant pop’ composer JacobTV (Jacob ter Veldhuis) started as a rock musician and studied composition and electronic music with Luctor Ponse and Willem Frederik Bon at the Groningen Conservatoire. He received the Composition Prize of the Netherlands in 1980 and became a full time composer, who soon made a name for himself with melodious compositions, straight from the heart and with great effect. Composed for oboist Bart Schneemann in March 2002 with support from the Dutch FPA , Garden of Love is based on a poem by William Blake.

THE GARDEN OF LOVE I went to the Garden of Love. and saw what I never had seen: A chapel was built in the midst, where I used to play on the green. And the gates of this chapel were shut, and ‘Thou shalt not’ writ over the door; So I turn’d to the Garden of Love, that so many sweet flowers bore. And I saw it was filled with graves, and tomb-stones where flowers should be: And priests in black gowns, were walking their rounds, and binding with briars, my joys and desires.

Born and raised in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Dillon Hauke is a Master of Music student in flute performance at Georgia State University under the direction of Jessica Petrasek. He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from New Mexico State University in 2025, studying under Marta Plominska and Lisa Van Winkle. Dillon participated in the ARIA International Summer Academy, attending for two consecutive years. Currently, works as a teaching assistant for the Fundamentals of Aural Skills class, returning as the professor in the coming school year as part of his assistantship.

Deus Ex Metronome

Russell Wharton | B. 1990

Dylan Mantione, percussion

The BOSS DB-90 Dr. Beat Metronome has been with me almost my entire musical life. I owe it a great debt of gratitude, as I have learned as much (or more) from the it as I have from any teacher. Though the Doctor has helped me build my skills as a musician, we have not yet gotten the chance to perform together. So, I decided that it would be fun if Dr. Beat and I got to play a little tune together. Written for solo snare drum with audio accompaniment, Deus Ex Metronome is the result.
