Message from Pastor Kris
Shawnee Alliance Family,
Thank you to those who were able to join us for our special outdoor service on April 14th for Vision Sunday! It was a blessing to communicate the heart of what God is calling us toward at Shawnee Alliance. There is a lot ahead for our church and our community. God has called us to walk this path together, and now I invite you to become a larger part of the process.
I would like to invite you to join me in the East Campus Sanctuary this Sunday, May 19 at 6:30pm for a time of prayer and discussion to follow up from Vision Sunday. My desire is to take time to hear from one another as we continue to clarify and grow toward the mission that God has set us toward. It will be a relaxed time full of prayer, discussion, reflection and celebration. I look forward to seeing you this Sunday evening!
I also want to share my incredible excitement for all God is doing in our church, especially the dedication of 18 children this past Sunday! I can't wait to see all that God will do in and through our children as they grow.
Blessings,
Kris

Join Community
Life Transformation happens through discipleship, serving, and making connections with others. Below are some opportunities to join community throughout the week and month!
Life Groups
Life Groups are groups of about 6-14 adults that meet together on a regular basis to enjoy fellowship and lift each other up in prayer. Many groups are family-focused and their children are welcome to come as well. These used to be referred to as In-Home Groups, but as we have brought more intentionality to the groups, we have decided to change the name as well. The "Life Groups" name comes from the intentional design of fostering Christian friendship while living life together. The name is also an acronym, which stands for:
- Love – build relationships and show love in the body of Christ
- Instruct – study the Bible to grow in their knowledge of God
- Fellowship – value the experience of being with other Christians and enjoying time in the body of Christ
- Evangelism – as with everything at Shawnee Alliance Church, life groups are a part of the way we fulfill the Great Commission
You can visit shawneealliance.com/groups at any time to view groups that are open for new members, and new Life Groups form regularly. If you want to get involved but don't know where to start, or have any questions, please join the group "I want to join a group," on the Life Groups page, and you will be contacted within a week about how to become part of a group!

Ministry Highlights
Kids & Youth Ministries
Our Kids & Youth Ministries have many fun activities lined up for this summer for Preschool-12th Grade! Check out the events in our Summer Calendar below!
Connected Women
More than 40 women across all walks of life joined us in April for the Lifeway Conference Simulcast. We enjoyed fellowship, laughter, worship, and a time of growth in scriptures.
Our next Connected Women's event is a Trivia Night at The Meeting Place on Market on June 21. Form a group of gal pals, pick a team theme to dress up as, bring a yummy dish to share, and join us for a night of laughs!
Hands-On Ministry
Our Hands-On Ministry is a volunteer team that focuses on being the hands and feet of Jesus by serving others in their time of need. Some typical ways this serving team comes alongside others is by: driving people to their appointments and helping them understand what the doctor is saying, small lawn/landscaping projects, short-term meals, providing in-home medical support, and providing companionship to those who aren't able to get out and about anymore.
This ministry was started by two nurses with serving hearts, who regularly saw needs that were greater than just what medical care could provide. Their deep desire to see needs met and hearts transformed led them to establish this exciting ministry. Since then, the Hands-On Ministry has been able to help so many people, and looks forward to all that God will do through this ministry in the years to come.
Are you looking for a new way to get plugged in and helping people in their time of need sounds like a great place to start? Consider volunteering in the Hands-On Ministry. You are able to set your own schedule and decide how you'd like to serve, and we will call you when relevant needs arise. If you're interested, please fill out an online application below and we'll reach out to you soon. If you have any questions, please contact us at hands@shawneealliance.com. We are excited to serve with you!
Missions Updates
Aspire
Shawnee Alliance Church is excited to partner with Apollo Career Center and Aspire to host English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) classes this summer. ESOL classes can help English language learners improve their listening, speaking, reading, writing and comprehension skills in English and can help students increase their knowledge of American culture. With the increasing population of Haitian and other refugees finding themselves relocated to our city and communities around us, we are happy to open up some classroom doors to offer them a safe place to meet and learn.
Apollo is still looking for additional teachers to assist with the classes which start in July. For any questions or interest in how to get involved in this community outreach program, please contact Jessica at missions@shawneealliance.com
Beulah Missions Work Trip
This week, a group from Shawnee Alliance is at Beulah Beach Camp for our 16th annual Missions Work Trip! They are working with the staff to do whatever tasks they need, including carpentry, electrical, plumbing, landscaping, painting, and other odd jobs or general cleaning and cooking. We are honored to be able to help Beulah Beach keep up its facilities well, which in turn helps to reach hundreds of kids, adults, and families for Jesus! Please join us in praying for them as they continue being the hands and feet of Jesus at Beulah Beach!
What is Great Commission Sunday?
Shawnee Alliance Church is part of the Christian and Missionary Alliance denomination, and we emphasize Missions - because it's part of who we are! Great Commission Sunday is an opportunity to learn about and help send out more missionaries to share Jesus with others around the world.
This Sunday, Shawnee Alliance will be setting aside the missions offerings donated this week to support Great Commission Sunday and the work of sending new workers around the world to share the gospel. You're invited to give to this exciting ministry by clicking below and dropping down to "Great Commission Sunday". Thank you for partnering with us!
If you have any questions or would like to know more about mission trip opportunities, please contact Jessica at missions@shawneealliance.com.
Prayer Ministry
Prayer is not just something we do, it's a part of who we are. We incorporate prayer into everything we do, because prayer brings us closer to God, and that's right where we want to be.
Updates from our May Prayer Events
National Day of Prayer - May 2
The 73rd annual National Day of Prayer on Thursday, May 2 was observed by many of our congregation. Prayer and worship was led by community pastors and leaders at the Civic Center, and both WTGN and WTLW 44 aired this service live. It was a joy to hear God's people raising their eyes and concerns to Him on behalf of their city.
Prayer Time with Believers from Korea - May 10
On Friday May 10, our church hosted a group from Korea, who for the second year, have come to our community to pray over Lima and our individual churches. What a blessing to hear their hearts as we prayed over Shawnee Alliance Church and Lima! It was a great experience to hear them pray in Tongsung Kido style, which is praying aloud together, seeking the empowerment of the Holy Spirit in their lives and within the community. We closed by singing a song together in both Korean and English.
Sunday Partners in Prayer Team
“Pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.” Ephesians 6:18.
Partners in Prayer is built on the belief that everything we do must start with the presence of God. There is a rotating schedule, so each person is assigned one Sunday a month to pray. There are two parts to Partners in Prayer:
- Intercessory Prayer Team: Intercessory Prayer is praying on behalf of others. Each Sunday, 2-3 people arrive before each service to walk through the sanctuary and pray for the pastors, worship team, and everyone who will join together in worship that day. Join with us to partner with the Holy Spirit as He brings to mind the right people to pray for and how to come alongside them!
- Prayer Area Team: Toward the end of the worship services, we invite people to receive prayer in our Prayer Area in the modern service or outside the sanctuary in the traditional service. Partners in Prayer, along with the staff, are there to meet with people, listen, and pray for them as the Holy Spirit convicts their hearts.
Please contact Pastor Brian at brian@shawneealliance.com with any questions.
We are a praying church and it's an honor to pray for you!
If you have a prayer request, please fill out a connect card at the bottom of our website or in the seat back in front of you during our church services. You can choose to either share your prayer request(s) with all of our prayer warriors or request that it only be shared with the pastors and staff.
Would you like to be added to our prayer email list? We send out emails whenever someone lets us know of a public prayer request. There is power in prayer!

Community Opportunities
New Ministry Ideas
Maybe you're looking to serve in a different way. Do you see a need in our community or church family that God is placing on your heart to begin meeting? What next step is God calling you toward?
If God is calling us to something, it's worth doing, and it's worth doing well.
Do you have an idea for a new ministry? Please fill out the form below. We'd love the opportunity to walk alongside you and help determine next steps.
Bible Reading Plan
Bring transformation to your life by reading your Bible! You will get to know Jesus on a deeper level and learn wisdom for your everyday choices.
You can find a free Bible in any of our church lobbies. Please feel free to take one when you're with us at church on Sunday or download the YouVersion app on your phone.
Use this simple SOAP format to guide your interaction with God's Word:
- Scripture. Take your time reading each chapter and allow God to speak to you.
- Observation. What do you see God doing in the Scripture? What is God saying to you?
- Application. Ask yourself how you can apply this to your life right now.
- Prayer. Communicate with God and ask Him to help you apply this to your life.
