FROM HEAD COACH ALICIA UM HOLMES
We have just started the winter quarter at UCLA and our team is prepping to make a run at our remaining 8 regular season tournaments. First up for us is The Battle of LA, our crosstown match-up vs USC on January 23rd. This is the 4th edition of the match play competition where we’ve won twice and lost once, and we are looking to reclaim the trophy and paint it back to UCLA blue! Next is our annual visit to the South Bay to compete at the Therese Hession Regional Challenge at Palos Verdes Golf Club, a team favorite stop where we see many of our Bruin family and friends. We head to the desert in mid-February to play in the Alice and John Wallace Classic and return home at the end of the month to host the Bruin Wave Invitational presented by Capillus. Last up in winter quarter is the GameAbove Invitational in early March before the team tackles finals. It’s a bevy of competitions almost every other week, and it’s imperative for us to be prepared with our games and stay ahead of our schoolwork. Winter quarter challenges our student athletes to balance their academics with days away for golf, and although it can be difficult, it’s also a great opportunity to learn time management and prioritization skills. Looking back at this past fall quarter, I’d like to highlight three breakthrough individual performances by our Bruins. We traveled to Japan to start our season, which was a great team bonding and culturally eye-opening trip. The tournament took place in Mishima, at the base of Mount Fuji, where sophomore Maye Huang earned her first collegiate victory. She claimed 1st place co-honors in a field of 65 Japanese and American college players. It kick-started a great fall run for her where she collected 2 additional Top-15 finishes. Sophomore transfer Jen Lee made an immediate statement in her initial outing representing the team, winning the Windy City Collegiate. This was Jen’s first college victory as well and validation for the tremendous mental work she’s incorporated into her routine. To know how much she’d struggled with her game the last couple of years and then see her start to believe in herself again, it’s a moment I’ll remember for a long time. Last, but not least, was senior Meghan Royal’s 7th place finish at the Stanford Collegiate, the strongest field we competed against all fall. With the score of 6-under (70-65-72) she bested her previous year’s total by 21 shots! Again, another awesome accomplishment to witness after knowing the amount of work that she’s done behind the scenes and the personal growth she’s had at UCLA. Spending the fall quarter with our new mix of Bruins, I’ve seen how talented this group of young women are and have no doubt that more incredible things are in store for each and every one of them. They have the desire to improve, enjoy the work that it takes to be better, and love to give everything they’ve got on the course. 2026 here we come! Let’s go Bruins!

BRU-WIN at the 2026 Therese Hession Regional Challenge
The Bruins claimed their first team title of the 2025-2026 season this past week at the 30th annual Therese Hession Regional Challenge at Palos Verdes Golf Club!! With a team score of 8-under par for the tournament, the team finished 11 strokes ahead of runner-up Texas and beat out eight Top-25 ranked teams.
Four of the Bruins from the lineup finished in the Top-15 with sophomore Jen Lee taking co-medalist honors and freshman Kacey Ly recording her first Top-5 finish in a very strong field. Many more to come!
The best part of the week was time spent with our Bruin host families!
Thank you to our Bruin families - Dave and Song Klein & Chrysa and Craig Brothers - for hosting the team during the tournament to very delicious home cooked meals and showing us so much love! We are truly grateful for all that you do and for these special moments we get to share and cherish forever!
