The Blast

City Manager Dennis' Weekly Update | May 6, 2026

Last Friday, May 1st, was the start of Mental Health Awareness Month and rather than turning our lights green, we began flying a new flag Public Works helped to raise, in accordance with the IDEA Committee's adopted Flag Display Schedule. The flag was created by The Pete Foundation to help bring awareness and stop the stigma; the flag represents both the personal struggle of someone trying to find hope and happiness, as well as our collective attempt to bring mental health out of the darkness and into the light. Green is known as the official mental health awareness color. Yellow represents hope, happiness, and renewal. The curves act as an embrace for those suffering from mental illness. Together, they represent an acceptance of our mental health as a community focus.

3rd Annual Walk for Awareness, 5/9

This event which the Parks and Recreation Department first held in 2024 has grown in numbers each year, a testament to the spirit of Brisbane and how we show up for one another. Join us on Saturday, May 9th at 10 AM at the base of Quarry Rd. Trail for the 3rd annual Mental Health Walk for Awareness. Let's keep growing this tradition of connection, support, and community wellness!

Afterwards, there will be plenty of informational booths and activities in the park, including therapy dogs and free ice cream for the first 100 participants who complete the walk!

Additional event parking is available on Park Lane and in the City Hall and Annex lots. And remember, for everyone's safety, all dogs much remain on leash! Thank you.

Federal Funding Secured by Rep. Mullin for Glen Park Pump Station Replacement

Earlier this week, we received the amazing news from Congressman Mullin's Legislative Director that the FY26 local community project funding request for replacing the Glen Park Pump Station had passed the House and was subsequently signed by the President. The result is $1,145,144 in federal funding for a project which had long been on the City's Capital Improvements Projects list. This funding will replace the 50-year-old Glen Park Pump Station by rehabilitating and upgrading the facility to ensure functionality, resiliency, and reliability of the City’s water distribution system. The upgrade of this booster pump station will also increase the capacity of the station to match current recommended water tank refill rates. We thank the Congressman and his staff for all the hard work and advocacy they've done on Brisbane's behalf! Read more in their press release.

Amazon's Community In-Kind Donation

"It's like Christmas in April!"

This was not a normal 3rd grade tour to City Hall! The kids and their teachers were in for a treat when they walked into the Community Meeting Room, whose back tables were laden with enrichment supplies for their classrooms that their teachers, Ms. Carr and Ms. Nichols, had been needing to supplement STEM projects and other activities in their classrooms. Same for our afterschool program, Club Rec, whose Amazon wishlist is now empty thanks to a new partnership with the company, aka Amazon’s SSD (Sub-Single Day) Community In-Kind Donation!

We thank all from their leadership team who joined the 3rd graders and Mayor Mackin’s portion of the field trip last Wednesday, getting the chance to meet the teachers and staff that will be putting these supplies to good use very soon!

And even though all the STEM and enrichment supplies were neat to see, public safety always steals the show at any field trip!

Lagoon Community Meeting #2 Recap

Thanks to those who joined us in-person and online at last Thursday's Lagoon Plan Community Meeting #2 at the Brisbane Library to hear about the conceptual design alternatives that have been developed for protecting the Lagoon against rising tides. More to come in the form of FAQs on the project page, brisbaneca.gov/lagoonplan, so that the public can learn about the draft plan and alternatives that will be proposed in it before it’s presented to the City Council in the fall. Having an adopted plan will allow the City to apply for future grant funding. For now, check out a close-up of the boards and view the slides.

If you missed the meeting, you can watch back a recording of it on YouTube.

Congratulations as well to our 3 Lagoon Art Contest Winners, who each received a $50 gift card to Madhouse Coffee.

  • Emile Manara: Most Awe-Inspiring
  • Most Original: Jeri Sulley

Smoke Testing Community Meeting, 5/14

Following the City’s recent Inflow & Infiltration (I/I) study, the next phase of work will include targeted field investigations to identify where excess stormwater and/or groundwater may be entering the sanitary sewer system. One of the primary tools used in this effort is sanitary sewer smoke testing – a safe, effective, and widely used method. City staff will be hosting a Smoke Testing Community Meeting and invite the public to learn more about this testing which is scheduled to take place in Central Brisbane in mid-June.

A Sanitary Sewer Informational Update will also be provided at Thursday night's City Council meeting by Public Works Director, Maz Bozorginia.

Take the Bay Area Air District's Heating Outage Preparedness Survey by 5/15

The Bay Area Air District is interested in understanding how prepared residents are in the event that they lose heating in their home due to a built-in heating system breaking and needing replacement. They are collecting this information to better understand the concerns residents may have during temporary loss of heating events to help inform future planning and support ongoing clean air initiatives. Take the survey before it closes on May 15.
