Dalguise 2026

Primary 6 and 7 pupils attended PGL Dalguise from 27th-29th April. They participated in a wide variety of activities including archery, fencing, raft building, zipwire, climbing and much more. The weather stayed fine whilst they were away and they were able to make the most of their time. Many thanks to the staff who volunteered to attend Dalguise and supervise pupils.

Primary 7 Two Day visit to High School

Our Primary 7 pupils enjoyed a two day visit to their High School a couple of weeks ago. Staff from both Strathaven Academy and Larkhall Academy have been in touch to congratulate the pupils on their behaviour and attitude on the two days. They were great representatives of Newfield Primary and we know they will do well when they move to their new schools.

Primary 1 Welcome Assembly and Transition Events

Our new Primary 1 pupils have been taking part in Transition events over the last few weeks, meeting Mrs McCafferty and getting used to being in Primary 1. They were also entertained by our current Primary 1 pupils who took part in a Welcome Assembly, telling the younger pupils all about school life! We look forward to the children joining us in August and we are sure that they will enjoy becoming a part of Newfield Primary School!

Health Week

We had our Health Week in school the week beginning 18th May. The children were treated to a huge variety of visitors and activity sessions to promote a healthy lifestyle. We want to thank all of the visitors who took the time to come in and work with the pupils. It is a very enjoyable week for the pupils and they really benefit from visitors and experts. A big thanks goes to Mrs Colquhoun for the huge effort in organising and timetabling this week.

Eco Co-ordinator of the Year Awards

Mrs Jones has been recognised nationally for her outstanding contribution to environmental education after achieving joint second place in the Eco-Coordinator of the Year category at the Eco-Schools Scotland Awards 2026. Judges praised Mrs Jones' lifelong commitment to the Eco-Schools programme, highlighting the school’s remarkable achievement of securing 11 Green Flags — a phenomenal success demonstrating sustained energy, motivation and resilience over many years. Congratulations and a big thank you to Mrs Jones for all that she does to support Learning for Sustainability and Eco Awareness at Newfield Primary.

Sporting Primary School of the Year

We are all celebrating after being named ClubSport Hamilton Sporting School of the Year 2025, marking the second time the school has received this prestigious award. The achievement reflects the dedication, enthusiasm and teamwork shown across the whole school community. Special praise has been given to Sports Coordinator Mrs Forsyth, whose hard work and commitment alongside the school’s Sport Committee have helped create a thriving culture of sport and physical activity throughout the school. Huge well done to Mrs Forsyth and the Sports Leadership Group!

The children came away with a huge haul of medals and 11 have also qualified for the final on Wednesday 17th June. Well done to all of the pupils involved, and to Mrs Forsyth!

Mrs Murray's Dance Club participated in the SLC dance festival last month. Thanks to Mrs Murray and to Mrs Jones for going along on the night to assist. Huge thank you also to Erin and Hazel from Dance Fusion who have agreed to sponsor the Dance Club t-shirts.

A huge thank you to the Parent Council who have supported us throughout the school year. The have organised some fabulous events this year, supported us with educational resources and lots of extras that the pupils benefit from, including visiting pantomimes, P7 leavers' hoodies and monetary donations for every class. They have also kindly paid for the ice cream van next week for our children. We really appreciate all the time they have given up for the pupils and the hard work that goes into all events. Special thank you to Treasurer Susan Brown who leaves Newfield Parent Council as her daughter is moving on to high school. You will be missed!

Finally, I would like to extend my sincere thanks to all parents and carers for the support you have shown throughout this session while I took on the role of Acting Headteacher at Newfield Primary School and Nursery Class. Your kindness, encouragement, and trust have meant a great deal to me, and I have truly appreciated it over the year. Looking ahead to the next session, Mrs Horn will return from her secondment, and I will return to my substantive post as Depute Head Teacher. Mrs Montgomery will also return to her Principal Teacher role. I would like to offer a heartfelt thank you to Mrs Montgomery for stepping up so willingly this year and for the invaluable support she has provided. It has been greatly appreciated. I would like to express my sincere thanks to Mrs Colquhoun for her dedication, commitment, and hard work in her role as Acting Principal Teacher this session. She has made a significant and lasting contribution to our school community, and her support and leadership have been greatly valued by staff and pupils alike. Mrs Colquhoun has been appointed as Acting Depute Head Teacher at Blackwood Primary and will begin her new post in August. While we are incredibly proud of her and wish her every success in this well-deserved next step, she will be very much missed by everyone at Newfield. Blackwood Primary is fortunate to be gaining such a talented and committed colleague.
