The Blast City Manager Dennis' Weekly Update | May 28, 2025

Did you know that the City maintains a History Room inside the Brisbane Library? An exhibit featuring David Schooley was installed last year, which we want to make sure you got a chance to see. The exhibit now includes a slideshow of photos courtesy of San Bruno Mountain Watch, and a touchscreen kiosk, which was programmed last summer by our Communications Intern, Luca Pfister.

Unveiling New Star Donor Poster by Brisbane Resident Ken Bousquet

This 36" x 52" poster was created by Ken Bousquet, whose wife Jennifer was integral to the community fundraising efforts back in 2012 for a new Community Park Playground (the one you see at the Park still today). This had been a project that had been in the works for the previous 5 years. In 2012, it picked up remarkable steam thanks to the involvement of the Mothers of Brisbane with staff, along with the Playground Design Subcommittee of former Parks and Recreation Commissioners Marmion and Bologoff, and of course, the Brisbane City Council who ultimately approved the project at their meeting of May 7, 2012.

Jennifer, who was the Mothers of Brisbane's 2012 Fundraising Chair and Founding Member, Jessica Aloft together made presentations to the Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, wrote letters to Brisbane businesses, and tirelessly reached out to community members about buying a gold donor star. In total, $33,400 was raised as a result of their efforts. Thanks once again to Jennifer and Jessica, and all of the 2012 star donors; the playground wouldn't be the great source of enjoyment that so many know it to be today had it not been for their generous donations!

With the lamacoid donor stars needing to be removed at the end of 2023, as their time in the sun literally came to an end, with stars repeatedly getting cracked or worse, falling off of the seatwall, a Star Donor page was stood up on the City's website and Ken started memorializing the donors on this poster which recently found its home in a perfect little nook at the City Hall Annex. Stop by 25A Park Place to see it in person! Thank you, Ken, for your work on this fabulous Star Donor Poster, and your meticulous care to ensure the inscriptions live on.

Economic Vitality - Moving Brisbane Forward

Another exciting item to recently debut is the new "Welcome to Brisbane!" video, which was presented to the City Council at their meeting of May 15 as part of a rebranding effort of the City's Economic Development Department to the City's Economic Vitality Office, or EVO, to better explain and market the efforts and goals of the department. See Director Bull's staff report and the video, which was produced in-house, below:

You can find that video on our YouTube channel here and housed on the Economic Vitality Office's webpage. Here's to engaging with more of our businesses, along with planning and moving forward with all of the departments and groups in the City involved in order to strengthen our footprint on Visitacion and ensure our business community stays vibrant!

Age-Friendly Corner: Help at Home Guide and 24 Hr. Hotline

The Help at Home Guide is a mini-reference guide to assist San Mateo County adults of all incomes to access resources and to remain safely in their own homes.

Mentioned in the guide is the Network of Care, a comprehensive, internet-based resource for older adults and adults with disabilities, as well as their caregivers, service providers, and families. It provides an extensive service directory to put people in touch with the right services at the right time. It also offers vital information about assistive devices, caregiving, diseases, day-to-day challenges, and support, as well as daily news concerning aging and disabilities.

Lastly, there is a 24-Hour hotline: 1-844-868-0938. The Hotline serves as the main entry point for Aging and Adult Services, including Adult Protective Services. Social Workers answer questions about the variety of services available through the County and in the community. Hotline staff also provide phone support and counseling on issues of concern to older and dependent adults with disabilities and their families.
