This week is Neighboring Week, a week-long event sponsored by The Cultural Awareness Coalition inviting Midland to participate in activities that foster inclusion and a sense of belonging within the community. There are many fun events to choose from, below are photos taken at just a few of the events that took place during last year's Neighboring Week:

Neighboring Week is a chance to better understand our "neighbors", those that we can get to know a little better to bring understanding, connection, and trust in order to thrive together. We hope you can join MPS in celebrating our community during Neighboring Week!

2023 Midland Public Schools Fun Run

The 2023 Midland Public Schools Fun Run, hosted by MPS Elementary PE staff, was held on September 20th. The purpose of the Fun Run is to stimulate interest in cardio-vascular endurance among students and to provide them with a distance run experience. A big thank you goes out to the Midland High School Cross Country team and coaches, this event could not have happened without their help and expertise. Congratulations to all of the students who competed in this year’s Fun Run! Our top ten finishers were:

Nominations Now Open for the 2024-25 Michigan Teacher of the Year

The Michigan Department of Education (MDE) announced that the nomination window for the 2024-25 Michigan Teacher of the Year, an annual program that recognizes outstanding teachers in our state, is now open.

Each year, ten Regional Teachers of the Year (RTOYs) are selected through a competitive application process, with one of the RTOYs being named Michigan Teacher of the Year.

MPS is honored to have 2023 Regional Teacher of the Year for Region 4, Bridgit Sova, as a Special Education Teacher at H.H. Dow High School!

All eligible nominees are invited to apply. To be eligible, a nominee must have a valid Michigan teaching certificate and at least five years of teaching experience in Michigan and be in good standing with their school or district.

People wishing to nominate a quality teacher for this recognition are asked to make nominations using the online form, which is available until Monday, October 16, 2023. Please consider nominating an outstanding teacher today using the button below!

Midland County Emergency Food Pantry Network's Backpack Buddies

In cooperation with the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan (FBEM), the Midland County Emergency Food Pantry Network (EFPN) is offering the Backpack Buddies Program to help provide nutritious food for elementary and preschool children throughout Midland County. How it works - packages of food are distributed to enrolled children on Friday afternoons to provide food for the weekend.

Children are eligible for this program if they meet at least one of the following criteria: qualify for the free or reduced school lunch program; live in a household with Food Stamp FIP case number; or live in a household qualifying for WIC assistance. There is no cost to the family or the school to participate in the program. If you would like to enroll a child in the program please complete the enrollment form below and return it to your school’s office.

This year the program will start on September 26th. Students can enroll at any time during the school year.
