20TH MARCH 2026. ISSUE 396

Head's Welcome

Dear Friends and Family, What a busy final week of term we’ve had! I am writing this just as we come off the back of an absolutely fantastic and moving talent show. Every year, I am knocked off my feet by the sheer variety of acts, but more importantly, by the determination and bravery our students show. Seeing them stand up to showcase their talents is always a highlight of my year. Our Year 10 students have been out on work experience this week, and the feedback has been nothing short of wonderful. From the creativity of pottery cafes to the responsibility of working in stables and archives, they have represented us brilliantly. We know these placements can feel daunting, but we hope the experience has given them a real boost in confidence and a possible glimpse into a future career. Back at school, the energy has been just as high. Our Year 8s took a trip to IKEA, successfully navigating the challenges of shopping and ordering food in a busy environment. On Tuesday, the whole school went "off-timetable." The cooking and car mechanics workshops were particularly popular, it was great to see everyone getting stuck into some practical hands-on learning! Lastly, we are saying a very fond farewell to Mrs Davies, one of our valued LSAs, as she begins her well-deserved retirement. Having been with us for 6 years, she has been a pillar of our small community. We will miss her greatly and wish her nothing but the very best for the future. I wish you all a restful and happy Easter break. We look forward to seeing all our students back at school, ready for the new term on Tuesday 14th April at 8:00am. All the best Mrs Rich

What we've been up to

Year 10 Work Experience - just a snapshot so far! More to come after Easter....

Harry is having the best time, is asking lots of questions, and being very helpful.  He has helped unload furniture from the van and even helped to varnish two items as you can see in one of the photos with him in.  Lysander is thoroughly enjoying his time at The National Archives. He has been able to look at a variety of different documents which are very interesting, such as the declaration of independence and world war documents. He has been polite, professional, and helpful. He has helped to find documents ready for people to view.  Rosie and Alice have been at the stables, their happy places :) Mason is at his work experience at Walton firs!. He is doing really well and really enjoying it.  Daisy is having a lovely time at Richmond Museum. Lucas has been enjoying himself at Trevor Sorbie. Remi had a fantastic work experience placement at Bedfont Lakes Country Park. Staff praised his positive attitude and enthusiasm, noting how he fully immersed himself in every task, from deep-cleaning the chicken coops to bathing the bearded dragons. Remi demonstrated impressive knowledge of animal rescue and care, confidently explaining his responsibilities in health checks, feeding, and habitat maintenance. His calm, gentle nature was especially evident when he successfully soothed a stressed bearded dragon during its bath. We are incredibly proud of the confidence and expertise Remi displayed! Marley excelled in a unique dual placement with Kudos Stairlifts and Next Level Golf. Throughout the week, he showcased a impressive blend of technical, physical, and creative skills across both industries. At Kudos, Marley demonstrated advanced design technology and accompanied the team on home visits to support installation assessments. Meanwhile, at Next Level Golf, he assisted in club manufacturing while honing his own athletic skills—even successfully coaching a beginner’s first shot! Marley should be incredibly proud of the versatility and confidence he displayed during this productive week.

IKEA Trip

Year 8 students enjoyed a successful trip to the IKEA store where they had the opportunity to practise their social skills in a real world context. Students searched for specific items, asked staff questions and remained carefully within a budget as they worked through the challenges on their activity sheets. They even completed a little of their own personal shopping after enjoying a well-earned lunch together in the café! The students were a real credit to themselves and to Canbury throughout the trip. Well done to Ella, Nina, Noah, Soren, Remi, Sylvie and Florence!

Life Skills Day - 17th March 2026

This week we held our first Life Skills Day and what a great day it was! From ironing to car maintenance, from prioritising to sewing - every student completed a range of activities and everyone had a brilliant time :) The student feedback from the day is below, and as you can see they learnt a range of new and exciting skills - are keen to do even more next time. Thank you to all of the staff who helped with the day and in particular all the hard work from Mrs Anjum, Mr Rush and Mrs Rich.

  • Most favourite skills: Car maintenance and cooking
  • Most challenging: Sewing and first aid
  • Most useful: Cooking and ironing
  • Most excited to do again: Car maintenance and cooking
  • Skills students felt most confident in after the session: Cooking, ironing, and car maintenance
  • Skills students would like to develop in the future: Financial skills, domestic skills (such as cleaning and vacuuming), and technical skills

House Quiz

The End of Term house quiz was a highlight once again, with 10 rounds from Easter to chocolate to staff questions to London! Students and staff had a great time testing their knowledge with the top marks going to Noble House overall. Great work by all and congratulations to our winning team in each house: Noble - Daisy, Ella, Reenie, Elizabeth and Oli Johnson - Josef Campbell - Tristan

Easter Egg Hunt

We had an energetic and fun Easter Egg Hunt today - finding paper eggs hidden around the school (we are sure we'll be finding them for weeks to come!) Everyone got stuck in and received a mini chocolate egg for taking part, with the winner in each form winning a mini buttons egg - well done! We then enjoyed form time of treats, films and games. Year 7 - Daisy Year 8 - Noah Year 9 - Alex Year 11 - Lloyd 6F - Reenie

Talent Show 2026

The annual Canbury talent show was a lively celebration of creativity and skill, featuring an impressive lineup of performances. Mr Stables and Pavel showcased their artistic talents with stunning artwork, whilst Danai brought a cultural touch with a Swedish folk song. Logan teamed up with Mr Mathy for a self-defence demonstration, adding energy and action to the event. Musical performances were a highlight, with Henry playing the piano, Daisy and Nina delivering wonderful singing performances, Ben impressing on the bass guitar, Elizabeth playing the recorder, and Reenie and Ella entertaining the audience with a guitar duet. Soren had everyone laughing with a brilliant comedy act, while the Canbury students presented a brilliant showcase from their recent ski trip. The event was a memorable display of student talent and enthusiasm. Thank you to all involved, we are so proud of you! If you would like a video recording of the live performances, please let Mrs Milestone know after the Easter Holidays.

Mrs Davies

Wishing Mrs Davies a very happy retirement - you will be missed and thank you for everything!

Last Assembly of Term

We celebrated the end of term with an assembly, announcing our latest House Point Winners along with the winners of our school values and overall house points for this term. We then announced the quiz and egg hunt winners, along with our Spring Term Amazon winners for the students (Brooke and Elizabeth) and staff (Ms Buchanan and Mr Stables) before saying goodbye to Ella and Mrs Davies. Have a lovely Easter break everyone!

Year 9 Science

Year 9 had a brilliant science session this week as they dissected some lungs! They saw the lungs being inflated and even felt what the lungs were like (wearing gloves of course!)

Chicks!

Mrs Milestone has been keeping an eye on the chicks at her sons' school - all 10 have now hatched! They will be cared for by staff over the holidays and when they are big enough, move to a new school that has opened in Berrylands. We wonder if Mrs Rich could be convinced to have some of our own next year....
