Rector's Message
It has been another busy and productive month in school. Our Senior Phase students have been working hard as they complete their Qualifications Scotland folios, projects and assignments. Staff are continuing to support young people through this important stage, and we are pleased with the focus and effort being shown across the board. We were delighted to welcome so many families to the S1 Parents’ Evening. The event was very well attended, and it was encouraging to see such positive conversations taking place about learners’ progress and next steps. Our recent Parent Council meeting was also very fruitful. A number of key topics were discussed, including the results of the survey on energy drinks in schools, planned investment in school resources, and the regeneration of the astro-turf pitch. We are pleased to confirm that the astro-turf work will take place during the Easter holidays to minimise disruption. We are also pleased to share some staffing news: we have successfully appointed two new Maths teachers who will join us next term. This is a very positive development for our Maths department and for our learners. Finally, our Easter Study Programme is included in this bulletin, offering additional support and revision opportunities for Senior Phase students as they prepare for the upcoming exam period. Thank you, as always, for your continued support Lynn Black Rector
Easter Study Support Programme
Our Easter Study support programme runs from Tuesday - Thursday 7th - 9th of April. Any pupil who wishes to attend must sign up using the QR code. The school will only be accessible to those who have signed up and a register will be taken by the member of staff leading the session.
Pupil Success
Logan Bruce S4 was approached by Railway Modeller Magazine to share his passion and talent for model railway set ups and he was tasked to write a short article himself. Logan worked very hard on his writing and as you can see in the attached photographs, was published this month. The English department are very proud of him for his dedication and his determination to make his writing perfect. Well done Logan!
CSE Cyber Security Competition 2025–26
This month, two teams of learners from Bell Baxter attended the final of the CSE Cyber Security Competition 2025–26, supported by CyberFirst. This nationwide competition saw 1,600 students from across the UK compete in the initial heats, with only 29 of the 52 Scottish teams invited to the final round – including two teams from Bell Baxter. After a challenging start, our teams worked hard and pulled themselves back into contention for 3rd place regionally, but narrowly missed out on a top spot this time. Well done to the following learners for representing our school and making it to the finals: Team 1: Lochlan Gordon, Elliot George, Elliot Berghuis, Harry McPherson Team 3: Danny Cuthbertson, Mackenzie Walker, Joe Duncan, Evan Romans We are incredibly proud of our students’ enthusiasm, hard work, and commitment.
Hear my Music
For the last 6 weeks 5 of our pupils have been taking part in an inclusion project with Kilmaron School support their pupils through music. "Hear my music" is a project based in Glasgow who were really keen for pupils from Bell Baxter to support Young people at Kilmaron school building relationships through music. This has been such an inspiring opportunity and extremely grateful to be involved with all the Kilmaron pupils.
Wellbeing Captains
INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY The Wellbeing Captains and Nurture Barista group asked for nominations from pupils about their favourite female teacher. Some of these lucky ladies received a special drinks and flowers delivery in a vase handmade by the Captains' S1 group. It was a lovely way to celebrate the amazing females who support Bell Baxter and work tirelessly in school. MERRY MARCH DAY It wasn't all about staff this month though! The Captains also opened The Neuk and provided drinks and cakes for their peers with their new 'Merry March Day'. The matcha was especially popular. The S6 pupils wrote notes of encouragement to younger peers which are now displayed on the notice board outside The Neuk. Pupils are encouraged to pop along and have a wee look at them. Merry March Day was a way of the Wellbeing Captains saying thank you and goodbye to all of their fabulous year group.
SPLASH THE CAPTAINS There is one last S6 hurrah with Splash the Captains on Friday 27th March where they hope to provide a bit of fun and laughter at lunchtime and all pupils are invited to throw cold water over them and member of the other Captain's teams!
A WEE THANK YOU
And far too quickly it is time for my amazing team of Wellbeing Captains and some of our Wellbeing Ambassadors to move on to new adventures. This is always a difficult moment in the year for me as I have watched these amazing young people grow in confidence and experience. This year's team have been exceptional: their commitment to their role in the school; their endless ideas and enthusiasm and their unwavering support of staff, p7 and S1 pupils, their peers and parents has been truly outstanding and they will be sorely missed. Their legacy on Bell Baxter has been felt across the school. I would like to thank them most sincerely for the meetings, the endless coffees we have served and the way they have supported others with kindness and commitment. Some of the things they have done this year include:
- Refreshments for staff and parents at Parent's Evenings
- A twice weekly lunch club for S1 pupils where they have organised crafts and activities
- P7 transition visits
- Weekly group sessions for S1 pupils, including Kitbag and Art activities
- The Great Bell Baxter Bake Off
- A celebration of International Women's Day
- Merry March Day providing cake and coffee for their S6 peers
- Supporting our Day of the Dead Coffee morning
- Participating and helping with the Santa Dash and the Christmas Fayre
- Providing coffee and tea for staff on Cake Fridays
This is not an exhaustive list, but gives you an idea of the time and energy they have given in their role. I would like to take this opportunity to thank them most sincerely and wish them every success in the future. You will be missed. Linda Jeffrey (PT Nurture)
Bell Baxter Basketball team
The Bell Baxter Basketball team is also losing a number of S6 players as they leave at the end of next week. Some of these players have been playing since S3 or S4 and they have been a core element of a really successful team. I know that they will be sorely missed by those who remain. Thank you for teaching everything I have ever known about basketball! (Very little!) and for your kindness to a coach who couldn't actually coach you. You have been an amazing team to watch and I wish you all the best in wherever you go next.
Fife Volleyball Victory
Our school’s volleyball players served up a masterclass in skill and sportsmanship over two events at the Fife regional tournament. Competing against 10 different schools and a massive field of 23 teams, our three squads (Teams A, B, and C) hit the court with high energy. The Road to the Finals The opening night saw all three teams battling through a rigorous round-robin qualifying stage. * Team A and Team C both dominated their respective pools, finishing as group winners and securing their spots in the elite "Top Group" for the finals. * Team B showed incredible resilience, qualifying for Group D to fight for their final standing. Finals Night Highlights The momentum only grew during the second evening of competition: * Team B put on a clinical performance to finish at the top of their table, officially winning Group D. * Team C held their own against the best in the region, securing a fantastic 4th place finish overall. * Team A emerged as the Tournament Champions! After a near-perfect run where they won every single match except one, they took home the gold. Beyond the scores, every pupil involved represented the school with pride. Their conduct was respectful, their teamwork was seamless, and their competitive spirit was unmatched. A huge congratulations to all our players for such a successful outing!
World Book Day
The Free Book Shop event in the English department was a huge success this year and we gave away an enormous 948 books to lots of very enthusiastic and grateful students. Thank you to everyone in school and the local community who donated books for our cause. Your kindness and generosity is as ever, appreciated

Lunchtime Crafting
Our lunchtime crafters have discovered their creative side in making these wonderful floral arrangements. What started out as 'let's see if we can do this', turned into lovely presents for Mother's Day. I'm sure you would agree, we have some very talented young people in Bell Baxter.
The club runs most lunchtimes in English 304, with Mrs Meikle.
