Shawnee Alliance SnapShot september 24 - Edition 48

In this Edition:

Message from Pastor Kris

There are many exciting opportunities for you to get involved in here at Shawnee Alliance! Last month, we gave out over 100 Backpacks to those in our church and community and we celebrated with 24 people who chose to follow Jesus in the waters of Baptism (check out the video below!).

Now we’re beginning to look toward giving and serving opportunities like Trunk-N-Treat and Operation Christmas Child. Trunk-N-Treat brings thousands of people into our Activity Center, reminding them that Shawnee Alliance is a safe place for them to experience fun and community. You can sign up to volunteer by October 20. Partnering with Operation Christmas Child gives us the opportunity to send shoebox gifts with the gospel message to children all over the world, which can transform the life of a child, their family, and entire village! Get an an empty box from the church lobbies Oct. 27-Nov. 17, fill and return it, and we'll add personal water filters and wooden cars as supplies last! Click the link below to learn more!

Blessings,

Kris

God is doing big things in and around Shawnee Alliance Church. Your giving to the building fund helps us improve our facilities to increase the effectiveness of our current and future ministries! You can partner with us through giving below. Thank you for cheerfully being part of Transforming Lives!

Current High School-Adult Groups:

Life Groups

Life Groups are groups of about 6-14 adults that meet together on a regular basis to enjoy fellowship and lift each other up in prayer. Many groups are family-focused and their children are welcome to come as well. These used to be referred to as In-Home Groups, but as we have brought more intentionality to the groups, we have decided to change the name as well. The "Life Groups" name comes from the intentional design of fostering Christian friendship while living life together. The name is also an acronym which stands for:

  • Love – build relationships and show love in the body of Christ
  • Instruct – study the Bible to grow in their knowledge of God
  • Fellowship – value the experience of being with other Christians and enjoying time in the body of Christ
  • Evangelism – as with everything at Shawnee Alliance Church, life groups are a part of the way we fulfill the Great Commission

You can visit shawneealliance.com/groups at any time to view groups that are open for new members, and new Life Groups form regularly. If you want to get involved but don't know where to start, or have any questions, please join the group "I am interested in joining a Life Group" on the Life Groups page, and you will be contacted about how to become part of a group!

KidsMin

Please join us in volunteering and donating to these exciting event opportunities coming up!

Trunk-N-Treat

Join us on Wednesday, October 23rd from 6:30-8pm at the Activity Center as we open the Activity Center to our community! Trunk-n-Treat offers our community a safe place to get a sugar buzz and gives us a connecting point with hundreds who may not have a church home yet.

This event is most successful when we all partner together! Create a trunk, help with snacks, monitor activities, or donate the sugar!

Bins will be available in the lobbies for donations starting October 6. Alternately, consider making a monetary donation, by selecting the Trunk N Treat option in the dropdown menu on the giving page, to help purchase candy in bulk.

The gospel is presented at EVERY shoebox distribution event and children are invited to enroll in a 12 session course that teaches about Jesus. This gift can transform the life of a child, their family and entire village!

Boxes will be available in the Activity Center and East Campus lobbies starting October 27. You can also build a box online!

New Ministry Ideas

Is God laying something on your heart as a potential ministry opportunity you do not currently see within the church?

Please fill out the form below. We'd love the opportunity to walk alongside you and help determine next steps.

Missions

Coming Soon: Guinea 2025!

Anyone interested in being a part of the mission trip to Envision Guinea is invited to stop out in the lobby of the Activity Center after both services on Sunday, September 29.

Trip dates are April 24-May 4, 2025. The team will serve by teaching English classes, assisting with eye exam & glasses distribution events, helping local churches and volunteering at the Child Rescue Center.

Reyes Family preparing to serve in Paraguay

Pastor Mark, along with his wife, Lauren and daughters, have completed the first step of moving to Costa Rica. There they will be completing their culture and language studies before continuing on to their long-term ministry field in Paraguay.

You can partner with them financially by selecting the a worker you love tab and searching Reyes at the Christian and Missionary Alliance giving page.

ESOL

I cannot describe how heart warming it is to have my church freely open up it's doors and classrooms to partner with this wonderful and desperately needed community program!

The first ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) class at Shawnee Alliance will be finishing its course this week with 11 students completing and showing great improvement in recent reading tests. Orientation for 30 new students starts next week and then a new class will begin. In recent classroom conversations where they were asked to share their favorite times and memories of this class, one student shared that he felt welcome and encouraged to participate in class activities and discussions, and another young lady shared that she really appreciated the support that her teachers, the building (church) and the program provided her so that she felt safe to learn and be herself.

Joanna Gregg - Serving in Guinea, West Africa

Joanna will be joining us for services on November 17th!

If you have any questions or would like to know more about mission trip opportunities, please contact Jessica at missions@shawneealliance.com.

Prayer Ministry

Prayer is not just something we do, it's a part of who we are. We incorporate prayer into everything we do -- because prayer brings us closer to God, and that's right where we want to be.

You can send prayer requests and updates to prayer@shawneealliance.com, and we will pass it on to our Prayer List so we can all pray for you!

If you'd like to keep a prayer request private to the pastors and staff, you can always request prayer through our Connect Card at the bottom of our website and mark "Private".

If you'd like to receive Prayer Request emails so you can pray for others in our church, sign up below!

Prayer Guides

Prayer Guides will be available beginning September 8 in our welcome centers and Kids Check-in areas. These guides will provide Bible verses and prompts to encourage prayer for America in several ways, including: our church, families, education, the workplace, military, government, and media.

I want to volunteer - where do I start?

First, consider where God might be leading you. What spiritual gifts and talents do you have?

Have you completed a Spiritual Gifts Assessment before? It asks questions to determine your highest Spiritual Gifts, which can provide direction on how God can use you to serve Him and others! Just click the link below, and it will take about 15 minutes complete.

We also recommend taking our next Faith Track class -- a 4-week series on Wednesday evenings in January. Together, we will discuss the essentials of our faith, learn about our church’s core values, discover our spiritual gifts, and discuss opportunities to further learn, grow, and serve. You can let us know of your interest now by signing up at the link below.

Next, decide which ministry or ministries you might be interested in, and how often you'd like to volunteer.

  • I'd like to serve regularly - Some opportunities include Sunday morning ministries such as Hospitality Team, Worship Team, and Kids & Youth Ministries, and praying for people before or at the end of services.
  • I can only help periodically - Events might be right for you, such as Fifth Quarter, Trunk-N-Treat, Upward Basketball, or Christmas Decorating. Our Hands-On Ministry provides help to those who need it in our church, and you can help whenever it's convenient for you!
  • If you're not sure, try walking through the prompts on the General Volunteer Form.

Then, let the ministry leader know you're interested!

And don't worry, trying out a new volunteer opportunity does not mean you have to stay there. If you find that it doesn't seem to be the right fit for you, let your ministry leader know or fill out a connect card and we'll help you find a ministry that's a better fit!

Bible Reading Plan

Bring transformation to your life by reading your Bible! You will get to know Jesus on a deeper level and learn wisdom for your everyday choices.

You can find a free Bible in any of our church lobbies. Please feel free to take one when you're with us at church on Sunday or download the YouVersion app on your phone.

Use this simple SOAP format to guide your interaction with God's Word:

  • Scripture. Take your time reading each chapter and allow God to speak to you.
  • Observation. What do you see God doing in the Scripture? What is God saying to you?
  • Application. Ask yourself how you can apply this to your life right now.
