Public Works Lead Maintenance Worker Kessel Crockett was at home having lunch when he heard the accident occur last Friday just before 12:30 PM on Old County, outside the Post Office. More will be shared about the accident next week, but for now, we're just grateful that the driver is on the mend and our excellent public safety personnel in Fire, Police, and Public Works were on-scene within minutes, along with several Good Samaritans who didn't hesitate in their assistance.

City Signboards Now Compliant with the Dark Sky Ordinance
With the City's Dark Sky Ordinance having taken effect March 1, 2025, one of the City facilities we knew was affecting some residents was the Community Park signboards, which required spotlights at night in order to be read, as the boards themselves aren't backlit. Communications staff, who manage and program the signboards, began speaking with the company that installed the signboards, Digital View, to see how the board's lighting could come into compliance with the new ordinance. The result? Installing a larger junction box, which would allow for LED light strips to be installed underneath the roof structure, aka fully shielded, and with a warmer color temperature of 3000 Kelvin or less, which they got to work on last week:
Public Works Buildings & Grounds crew turned off the spotlights earlier this week. We hope you enjoy the darker night when looking out towards the Park!

Wildfire Ready Event, 4/26 & Emergency Preparedness Meeting, 4/29
Knowing wildfire threats are always looming, the County of San Mateo urges residents to be prepared. Attend “Be Wildfire Safe & Ready,” a free preparedness event with tips from emergency response experts and vital resources from local agencies. Smokey the Bear will be there, and you'll learn to pack a go bag, sign up for alerts, and more. Held Saturday, April 26 from 10 AM to 1 PM, at the San Mateo County Event Center, 1346 Saratoga Drive, San Mateo.
And if you can't make it down to San Mateo this weekend, know you can join Battalion Chief Nick Gracia for this month's Emergency Prep Meeting, taking place from 6-6:30 PM on Tuesday, April 29th, on Zoom. See recordings from prior meetings here.
In the March meeting, Battalion Chief Craig Wittner was a guest speaker and spoke about the importance of home hardening, the new Fire Hazard Severity Zone Maps, and things we can do to lower our fire risk and increase our safety on our own property, regardless of what's happening on your neighbors' property.

And you may have seen this sign rotating on the boards; we wanted to make sure Caltrain riders were aware that the northbound elevator at the Bayshore Station is being serviced starting Wednesday, 4/23. Caltrain anticipates maintenance of the elevator to be finished up within the day, but were conservative in their alerts to their ridership. Please call Caltrain Customer Service at 800-660-4287 for assistance.

Visitacion Ave. Issues Survey - Leave your Feedback by 4/28!
At their meeting of March 6, 2025, the City Council Directed staff to authorize the Complete Streets Committee to engage around projects supporting traffic calming and parking challenges on Visitacion Avenue during peak hours. The Committee is anticipated taking the next 3 months to develop proposals for Council’s review. On April 2, 2025, the Complete Streets Safety Committee began developing an outreach plan and schedule for Visitacion Ave. issues. They're currently in the information-gathering stage, wanting to hear from residents, businesses, and anyone who frequents the downtown to provide their feedback now through April 28, 2025; there will be a later opportunity to consider and weigh in on improvements, which we'll share here in the Blast.
**Take the Visitacion Ave. Issues Survey at brisbaneca.org/vis by April 28th!**
