Warm regards. I hope you are doing well and enjoying the Lord’s grace and care. I feel grateful and blessed to have you as part of my team, supporting and comforting me with your prayers.
Spring is here, and little by little, the northern borders are opening up
Just as the trees are beginning to turn green and the flowers are starting to bloom, North Korea’s borders—which had remained tightly sealed—are also beginning to open up little by little. This comes after they were closed for approximately six years due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In mid-March, international rail services between China and NK resumed. However, foreigners are still not allowed to enter the country. We are waiting for God’s divine intervention so that the doors may open and true freedom in Christ Jesus may be proclaimed.
Recent decisions and steps
During this time, I attended meetings and prayed to figure out which team I would be joining, hoping to continue preparing myself for when NK opens its doors. Today, I’d like to share a little bit about that decision with you.
The team I will be joining is the South Korea Launch Team. As you may recall, my visa application for China was denied. Even so, I am grateful to God for this outcome as well, because it was a student visa; in other words, I would have had to study Chinese in order to remain in the country with the team. I also see God’s grace in this decision, as it allows me to continue improving my Korean instead of starting to study another language. Korean is the language I will use in ministry, so this step is also part of the preparation for what God has ahead🙏 It’s worth noting that when God opens the doors to North Korea and I have to enter, I’ll need to get a new passport so it doesn’t have a South Korean stamp.
Some of the activities I'll be doing with the Launch Team South Korea
- Follow my language training
- Korean cultural education
- Organize quarterly prayer and worship meetings for people from all over South Korea who have a deep interest in North Korea
- Weekly prayer, worship, and training meetings
- Targeted meetings with groups working inside North Korea to foster the necessary preparation
- Among other activities
Steps to keep moving forward
• I will be attending meetings to finalize all the necessary visa documents. • Begin the visa application process. The estimated departure date is in August. • Continue compiling the overall budget.
Churches rising in prayer
I am so grateful to God for allowing me to visit a beloved church that gave me the opportunity not only to share my testimony but also to encourage the congregation to pray for countries where persecution exists. It is a great joy to see how more churches are joining together to be part of the team working to fulfill God’s mission. This church has decided to do so through prayer, supporting the work from their knees, praying not only for me but also for NK. Something very special that happened during this visit was meeting an elderly woman who approached me. With great tenderness, she told me she only had a small gift to give, but that she was giving it with love. Then she placed a dollar in my hand. Perhaps to many it may seem like little, but to me it was something very valuable, a true treasure. That gesture reminded me of the story of the widow who gave everything she had. This little sister taught me a very important lesson: in missions, it’s not about the amount we can give, but about the desire to be part of what God is doing in the world. She understood that the work belongs to everyone—not just those who go, but also those who pray, support, and participate with what God places in their hands so that the gospel may reach the ends of the earth.
