Dear University community,

Welcome Back! This is Trailblazer, our Weekly News Bulletin for the TAMIU Community, distributed every Monday.

  • Our Fall Semester 2023 starts today and we’re excited for a new semester full of opportunity to get underway. This weekend was a flurry of activity with move-in to Student Housing and efforts to tidy up unfinished business, but today we’re ready to usher in Welcome Week, Aug. 28 – Sept. 1 at TAMIU.
  • Find out what we have planned daily here. Get to know your campus and your TAMIU community and find out ways to engage, have, and learn.
  • In addition to new students, we also welcome new faculty members this Fall…28 new faculty to be exact. Here’s a chance to meet your new faculty.
  • Also this week, we open our first exhibition of the Fall 2023 semester with featured artwork by acclaimed Iranian artist Omid Shekari. The exhibit, “Seeking a Way Out,” will be on display at TAMIU’s Center for the Fine and Performing Arts (CFPA) Gallery beginning today, Monday, Aug. 28. A closing reception will be held Friday, Sept. 15, from 5 – 7 p.m. Here’s more.
  • It’s always great to start the semester with good news and we’ve learned that Third Way, a national think tank and author of the 2023 Economic Mobility Index (EMI), identified TAMIU as the No. 1 university in Texas and third in the nation with an astounding 58.4% EMI among Third Way’s Tier 1 institutions. The report notes that “institutions in the Top Tier are unambiguously delivering strong economic mobility outcomes” for students and graduates.
  • As you make your way through campus you may note improvements to campus. One is an enhanced Wi-Fi user experience on campus as we’ve added 92 Wi-Fi access points and replaced 180 legacy access points to improve speeds throughout campus. Find out how you can connect faster.
  • Are you a student looking for on-campus employment? The Office of Human Resources has moved the student employment process to Workday. Students can search for current job vacancies and apply for positions of interest, via Workday.
