It was great to see so many of you enjoying CABchella, the culminating event of our Fall Semester 2023 Welcome Week this Friday. Great sounds, fun people, and fireworks are a great way to get our Fall Semester off to a memorable start.   • Here’s some great news… TAMIU has once again been recognized as one of the nation's Top Ten-ranked Southern Colleges in Washington Monthly Magazine's 2023 College Guide "Best Bang for the Buck" ranking. TAMIU was the highest-ranked public/state University, #3, among colleges and universities ranked in the South. TAMIU also earned a #2 ranking for low net price cost. This is TAMIU’s highest position in the Top Ten ranking to date. Details are here.
  • This is the second major ranking for TAMIU in recent weeks. According to research published in Third Way’s 2023 Economic Mobility Index (EMI), identified TAMIU as the No. 1 university in Texas and third in the nation with an astounding 58.4% EMI among Third Way’s Tier 1 institutions.   • Kudos are also due to our A. R. Sanchez, Jr. School of Business which has been notified it has maintained its business accreditation by The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB International). The Sanchez School of Business joins a select group of only 5.7% of business schools of the estimated 16,593 business schools worldwide that are AACSB-accredited. Congratulations to Sanchez School Dean Dr. Stephen Sears and the School faculty and staff for this continued mark of excellence. Find out the details.
  • This Wednesday, join us for Coffeehouse Wednesday featuring alumnus Carlos "Wayo" Garza ('17) prosecutor for the Webb County District Attorney's Office. He’ll share his career journey and lessons learned along the way. This takes place from 10:30 - 11:30 a.m. in Student Center Room 114 in the Career Café.   • Calling all freshmen! Join us this Friday, September 8, 2023, at 3:30 p.m. in KCB for your Freshman Celebration, an exciting kickstart to your journey of connecting, growing, and becoming empowered! I’m joining faculty, student leaders, and Reading the Globe Ambassadors to celebrate your first semester here. Find out about our popular Reading the Globe program and how you could win a FREE trip to Japan this Spring!
  • I hope everyone has an opportunity to view our first exhibition of the Fall 2023 semester with featured artwork by acclaimed Iranian artist Omid Shekari. The exhibit, “Seeking a Way Out,” is on display at the Center for the Fine and Performing Arts Gallery. A closing reception is Friday, Sept. 15, from 5 – 7 p.m. Here’s more.
  • Are you a student looking for on-campus employment? The Office of Human Resources has moved the student employment process to Workday. Students can search for current job vacancies and apply for positions of interest, via Workday.

TAMIU Highest-Ranked Public University in Washington Monthly College Guide's Best Bang for the Buck Ranking of Southern Colleges

TAMIU Faculty Member, Alum Offer 'Dreaming at the Border: Digital, Imaginary and Real' at Laredo Center for the Arts

The exhibit will be in place through October 20, 2023. An Artist Talk is scheduled for Saturday, September 9 at 3 p.m. Admission is free of charge and open to the public. Hosted by the Laredo Center for the Arts, “Dreaming at the Border” combines artwork by TAMIU assistant professor of Art Josias Figueirido and Julio Obscura, a TAMIU alum and artist based in Washington, D.C.

TAMIU Prof Newest Publication Focuses on The Stories of Laredoans, Book Signing Set Sept. 12

Dr. Mehnaaz Momen, professor of Public Administration at TAMIU, will present her latest publication, Listening to Laredo: A Border City in a Globalized Age on Tuesday, Sept. 12 from 7 – 9 p.m. at the Laredo Center for the Arts. Admission to the event is free and open to the public. In her book, Dr. Momen traces Laredo’s history while examining the city's ever-changing economic and cultural infrastructure.

TAMIU SBDC Offers Small Business Management Program for Future Business Owners

TAMIU SBDC will offer a distinctive program for entrepreneurs who want to start, expand or improve their business beginning Tuesday, Sept. 12. The Small Business Management Program is a hybrid classroom learning program delivered by business professionals including attorneys, accountants, marketing specialists and certified business consultants.

TAMIU Athletics Update

TAMIU is a member of the Lone Star Conference and competes in 11 sports: volleyball, men's and women's basketball, men's and women's cross country, softball, baseball, men's and women's soccer, and men's and women's golf.
