Term 3 Week 8 2023 Newsletter

Student Led Conferences Next Week

Next week we will be holding our Semester 2 Student-Led Conferences at Anzac Park. Our Student-Led Conferences are a great opportunity for our families to share some of the achievements and challenges of this term and set learning goals for each student. Conference appointments can be made through the Compass Parent Portal.

Father's Day Breakfast

It was fantastic to see such a large turnout for our Father's Day Breakfast last week. With the delicious BBQ hosted by our Year 2 parents, even the rain couldn't dampen our spirits. Some fathers brought fierce competition to the handball courts, while others were content talking over hot coffees from Team Kids' free coffee van. Thank you to everyone who turned up to support this event.

Congratulations Linca!

Congratulations to Linca K, who received a Highly Commended Award as part of the 2023 Minister's Awards for Excellence in Student Achievement in a Community Language Program. This is a remarkable achievement and reflects Linca's commitment to the study of her heritage language, Japanese. Well done, Linca!

Spring Soiree

Last Wednesday, our annual Spring Soiree was held at Cammeraygal High School. The evening showcased incredible talent and hard work from all our students. They truly shone on stage, making the event a big success. Congratulations to all the performers, behind-the-scenes crew, and everyone who contributed to the event. It was a night filled with music, dance, and drama, reminding us of the special bonds within our school family. Bravo!

Kindergarten 2024 Playgroup

All children and their families who have enrolled and starting Kindergarten at Anzac Park in 2024 are invited to join us at 9:30am in the school hall on Wednesday 13 September for a playgroup session. This will be an opportunity to meet staff, other parents and share in morning tea while your child plays with other children starting school next year.

Anzac Park joins the B & B Highway

On Monday 28 August we had the most wonderful incursion at Anzac Park. Students from years K-6 were chosen to take part in the B & B Highway workshop which was run by "Planting Seeds Australia". The team came out to talk to us about how we can contribute to supporting our native bees and other pollinators by increasing the diversity of plants within our school. We were able to organise the workshop and purchase large new flower planters, soil and a native beehive using the money from the "Sustainability Grant" we had successfully applied for with the Department of Education. Our students learned about the importance of biodiversity and how they could become "citizen scientists". They went on a Biodiversity Quest around the school and created clay mini hives to attract blue banded bees to our school gardens. They also enjoyed taking photos of the many mini beasts and some of the birds they found in the school grounds. Our students will also be involved in the planting of the native seedlings that we hope will attract more pollinators to our school.

Watch this space for more updates on this special project that we have joined to help boost our native bee population nationwide.

School Support Recognition Week

This week we recognise the work or our school support staff across APPS. We celebrated the essential role school administrative and support staff (SASS) and other non-teaching staff play in our school.

They welcome parents and carers, help our students learn, maintain our facilities and support our teachers so they can focus on learning. Their daily work is pivotal to the effective functioning of our school and we wanted to thank them on behalf of our teachers and wider community.

R U OK Day

On Friday 15 September students will bring in a gold coin donation and come to school wearing a splash of yellow whilst wearing their school uniform to show support for this day. This can be in the form of a yellow ribbon, yellow shoelaces, or socks. We also encourage you all to wear a splash of yellow too! All money raised will be donated directly to the R U OK? charity. This initiative is coordinated by the students and teachers in the Student Wellbeing Squad.

Summer Uniform Reminder

A reminder that for the remainder of Term 3 we will have a short cross-over period between winter and summer uniform. This means that during the next few weeks children can wear either their winter or summer uniform. All children are expected to be in their summer uniform on the first day of Term 4.

Please note that our school photo days are 14 and 18 September, we ask that all student's wear their summer uniform on these days.

Learning Hub Snapshot - Sky

At the end of Week 6, Sky went on their very first excursion to Field of Mars Reserve! During the day Sky investigated the features of Field of Mars Reserve, the characteristics of places within the reserve and considered how they can care for them. Sky participated in a range of activities and focus areas including Aboriginal stories and knowledge, shelter building, map use, treasure hunts, sensory investigations, and nature play. We are looking forward to transferring this learning back into the classroom when we build our own special places using recyclable materials!
