I write this just three days before going sky diving with Lori Wilson, to raise awareness and funding for our St. John’s Youth Empowerment Council (SJYEC). These funds will empower our advisory council to seek and receive grant requests from different community organizations, study their mission statements, and evaluate their presence in the community. The SJYEC will award grants to community organizations based upon the difference they are making in people’s lives in our surrounding communities. This is so exciting! Thank you all for your support in the formation of our youth!
I am very much looking forward to all of our formation programs being offered across all age groups. Some of these groups are already off to a good start and I am so happy that additional programs will begin in October.
NOTE CHANGES! On October 6th, at the 10:00 AM service, we will celebrate the Feast of St. Francis with Eucharist and a blessing of all of God’s creatures. We will bless our beloved pets (or a picture of them) of all shapes, sizes, textures, and habitats (and their human companions), as well as our stuffed cuddly pets.
Weather permitting, this service will take place on the front lawn. IF IT RAINS, all of the elements of this service will take place in the sanctuary. Trust me!!! I have done this inside and outside for many, many, many, years…all will be well, slightly chaotic, holy, and God will be praised!!!
We are blessed to be welcoming many new people into the life and community of St. John’s. Please wear nametags so that we may greet one another by name. Don’t be shy…introduce yourself to one another…yes, even at the passing of the peace!
Mark your calendars for “Courageous Caregiving” on November 2nd and the first concert in our Music in the Manor series on November 3rd!! Info on these events is in this issue. Each of these events is so, so good; don’t miss these opportunities.
Thank you for you, each of you and all of you who are the community of St. John’s. May we continue to let people know that they are loved, they matter, and they make a difference.
Peace and gratitude, Lisa+

Exciting Formation News!
Confirmation Classes Kick Off This Sunday!
Join us for our Confirmation Classes starting on September 29 at 4 PM! If you’re in 8th grade or older and haven't been confirmed yet, we’d love to have you. Meet us in the Living Room—everyone is welcome!
At Baptism, parents make the choice for their children to become members of the faith. At Confirmation, each candidate takes that important step for themselves. It’s a personal decision that doesn’t require knowing everything or having all the answers; it’s about consciously choosing to explore our faith and live it with our own "yes".
The classes will be led by Robin Ingram, Rev. Lisa, and Lori Wilson.
Calling All Acolytes!
What’s an acolyte? It’s a student in 3rd grade or older who assists during services in various ways, including carrying the cross or candles. It’s a rewarding experience, and each student will have support while they serve!
We’ll be hosting Acolyte Training on October 20th, right after the 10 AM service. Rev. Dorothy Greene and Kirk Mason, along with experienced acolyte leaders, will provide guidance. If your child is interested in becoming an acolyte, please email Lori Wilson. We aim to have enough acolytes so that each student will only serve once a month.
Let’s make this an incredible experience for our youth!
Are your kids registered for Formation?

Are you ready for some football?? Then we have the perfect snack for you!
This month's recipe is offered by Chris Plunkett, our Junior Warden.
Marinated pretzels
"Pretzel Crack"
Ingredients
- 1 bag of pretzels (not gluten free)
- 1 cup of vegetable oil
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon sea salt
- 1 envelope of Hidden Valley Ranch dressing
Preparation
Place pretzels in a large ziplock bag. Whisk all other ingredients in a bowl and pour over pretzels. Toss pretzels in bag to coat. Let marinate for 24 hours continuing to tossing whenever you think of it for even coating. The marinade will be absorbed by the pretzels and leave a subtle but addictive flavor!
