Orcutt Academy Spartan Newsletter September 22, 2023

Happy Friday, Spartans!

We hope that you were able to attend our Parent/Teacher conferences last night. Communication between our teachers and parents plays a key role in the success of our students at Orcutt Academy High School. This positive communication and holding our students accountable help to keep them on the right path and prepare them to be responsible young adults. There are many signs that we are all doing a good job on this. One example being that last year nearly 25% of our students at Orcutt Academy had a 4.0 GPA or higher. Amazing to think that one quarter of our entire student population have earned all “A”s in College Prep courses. These types of statistics make it seem very obvious that our young men and women are being taught the importance of their education and hard work at home as well as at school.

On Thursday, October 5 all 9th, 10th, and 11th grade students will have the opportunity to take the PSAT/NMSQT (Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test), an important test that provides many benefits that can help our students along the path to college. If your child is a junior, the PSAT/NMSQT offers them the opportunity to enter competitions for scholarships that can assist them in paying for college.

For freshmen, sophomores and juniors, the PSAT/NMSQT is also great practice for the SAT. They’ll get personalized feedback on their performance to help improve their skills before taking the SAT. In addition, students receive free college planning tools to help them start their college search and feedback on the types of AP courses for which they may be particularly well prepared. If your child is interested in hearing from colleges and universities across the country, remind your child to opt in to Student Search Service® when they take the test.
