UEA Internship Programme
The UEA Internship Programme facilitates paid, developmental internships for UEA students and recent UEA graduates.
UEA Employed Internships
Employ the intern through the UEA payroll on a worker contract that we will draft. In addition, we will advertise the opportunity, collect and forward applications for shortlisting, and complete the right to work check if not done at interview. The minimum pay rate for the UEA Employed route is National Living Wage, currently £12.21 per hour, with a £1.50 per hour charge for statutory costs such as National Insurance, pension contributions and statutory sick pay.
Host Employed Internships
Our Host Employed route is ideal for organisations who want to employ interns directly, but would like support with advertising their internship and processing applications. There is a charge of £150 + VAT for internships advertised through the Host Employed Internship route. The UEA Internship Programme Team will:
- Provide advice on recruiting an intern
- Construct a vacancy advert that will be advertised to UEA students and/or recent graduates under the UEA Internship Programme on our MyCareerCentral website.
- Collect applications and forward them on to the internship host to shortlist and interview.
For further information, please visit our website for employers or contact internship@uea.ac.uk.
Placements
Placements are a great way for our students to gain an insight into a particular sector or industry and gain valuable professional experience. We believe that work placements allow organisations to benefit from our students’ current knowledge and enthusiasm, whilst giving you a fresh perspective and having a positive impact on your business.
A placement year is a 9-12 month period of work taken by a university undergraduate student as part of their degree course. It gives the student an opportunity to gain valuable experience in a real work environment (in a role related to their degree) and for employers, this can mean access to potential future staff and a chance to shape the professionals of the future. Employers can also tap into a rich pool of UEA talent through shorter placement opportunities, where students can work a minimum of 80 hours.
Find out more about employing a placement student on our website for employers.
You can provide invaluable insights as someone who has 'been there and done it' by becoming a mentor to a student or graduate.
UEA Career Mentoring Programme
Students and graduates can talk to you as someone who has ‘been there and done it'. This can be through short Insider Insight conversations (30-45 minutes) or a six month career mentoring programme (six hours over a six month period).
For further information, please visit our website for employers or contact careermentors@uea.ac.uk.
UEA Award
The UEA Award is a reflective skills programme which enables students to receive recognition for their every-day activities. We would like to invite employers to give feedback to UEA Award students in the following ways:
- Feedback on a 3-minute video CV that students prepare as part of their Silver Award (guidance will be provided)
- Feedback as part of an online panel as part of the Gold Award (guidance will be provided)
For further information, please visit our website for employers or contact award@uea.ac.uk.

We host a wide range of careers-related events every year, giving students a clear idea of what’s out there. By attending our events, you can speak directly to students about your organisation, your opportunities and what a career in your industry looks like.
