Digital Photography

The art of capturing precious moments frozen in time.

One. Frame. At. A. Time.

Week 1 - Rule of Thirds

Through using the rule of thirds and muting or blurring the backgrounds in photoshop, I was able to minimize any distractions in the background while maintaining the subjects of the photos. In “ Autumn Aesthetics” the red maple leaves and raindrops shine against the grey background. In “Feathery Fern,” a moody shadow around the edge of the fern helps brighten the stark green, where I also used a leading line to draw the reader's eyes from the beginning down to the end of the fern. “Locks of Love” shares the shining beauty of a love locket aging with rust and corrosion of time and exposure to the elements. The heart sets right on the grid and the rusty chain also acts as a leading line almost to guide the reader through the image.

Week 2 - Exposure Bracketing

Week 3

Some edited Black and White Portraits of my grandmother
Environment Portraits of a Teppanyaki Chef at the Habachi Grill, Songoku, in Port Angeles, WA.
Some environmental portraits of my father while working of cars

Week 4

I typically shoot in RAW to capture more detail, however when switch my camera settings for the slow motion, I had to switch to shooting JPEG. Pictured above is a beautiful large dandelion. The Left is the RAW turned JPEG to post and the right is an Edit of the RAW file.
A couple of Slow Motion Edits; Left is a shot of Kingston, WA at night as a car rolls towards the ferry terminal, the Right is a shot taken on the River Road overpass overlooking Carlsberg, WA.
Some Stop Motion edits of my Blue Nose Pit Bull while playing fetch.

Week 5 - Abstract Photography

REFLECTIONS

Image Left: Yard Bird; Image Top Right: Alate; Image Bottom Right: Shaman
Nymphalidae
Mephistopheles

This week I challenged myself to use textures of the most mundane objects to manufacture abstract art; which focuses on visual language—shape, form, and color—to create a composition that is independent of visual references found in the real world.

What do you see? Textures? Colors?

What do you feel? What emotions does it convey?

What do you think the original subjects were? (Answer Below)

This series explores perception and symmetry through a hands-on, multi-stage photographic process. By reflecting subjects in two handheld mirrors, the image is fragmented and multiplied, creating an organic, kaleidoscopic pattern. The resulting raw images are then refined digitally—first to draw out textures and modify colors, and later to introduce mirroring and layering. This method, applied consistently across the series, creates a unifying visual language while exploring the unique distortions and harmonies within each subject.

The first image, Yard Bird, was a chain link fence. Alate was the edge of a small tree. The third, Shaman, a stump next to a baseball field. Forth and fifth, Nymphalidae and Mephistopheles, a tiny bit of moss growing on tree bark.

LIQUIFY CHALLENGE

On the left is my before images. On the right is my after edits, using the Liquify tool to smudge, push, pull, pucker, and bloat. My goal was to create abstract art where the subject seems to be emerging from paint.

I plan to experiment in the future and combine these two abstract techniques; reflections in mirrors and then liquifying.

Week 6

I used the sky replacement tool and made the images more dramatic using the camara raw filter.

Week 7 - The Art of Still Life

Folded Hopes & Dreams - A Still life of the items from my desk
Forgotten Time - The silent brass heart of a grandfather clock, stilled for years.
Baby Steps - Paused in porcelain, a lifetime of movement stilled in a single moment, where vulnerability meets the quiet anticipation of potential miles yet to travel.
Two different frames - Personally, I always prefer a more simple frame to better showcase the subject. I'm still learning how to use brushes to mask frames. I'm trying to learn how to make it more rough and less I don't know.. Pixelated? Robotic? I tried using different sizes for the brushes and also combined with another brush. Photoshop also kept crashing during this time.

Week 8 - Aperture

A Chord of Black & Whites - 3 images of a piano outside of the Hub in downtown Port Angeles.
A Step in the Right Direction - 3 images of the tower at the Port Angeles Pier.
Locks of Love - 3 images of the locks surrounding an octopus statue by the Port Angeles Pier
Leaf it Be - 3 images to display Depth of Field with a variety of foliage
Enjoy the View - 3 images from the top of the tower at the Port Angeles Pier

Week 9 - Panorama

I took this image in Downtown Port Angeles. I was hoping it would connect the pier more than the tower itself but I think it's interesting how it all laid out. I am excited to take more photos of places like Salt Creek and more and test out the panorama settings in photoshop more.

Week 10 - Low Light

Beleaf in Yourself, November 28, 2025

Week 11 - Visual Storytelling

A Smile Shared Across Generations, November 2025

My inspiration was to capture the serene joy found in the juxtaposition of a young mind and a great-grandmother, a visual testament to the continuous cycle of family legacy. The photograph effectively represents this essence through their intimate eye contact and genuine smiles, highlighting an unspoken connection that transcends the age gap. I hope viewers take away a sense of heartfelt joy and perhaps reflect on the enduring power of unconditional love across generations.

Multimedia Graphicz

From abstract to figurative, I am working on building and creating a portfolio of graphics for use in marketing campaigns, outreach, web posts, and more.

Hey! How's it Goin?
