The Blast City Manager Dennis' Weekly Update | February 18, 2026

Thank you to everyone who joined the Complete Streets Safety Committee at their special meeting on Thursday, February 12th at the Library’s Community Room. There was lively discussion and many ideas brought forth to the Committee around Visitacion Ave. improvements, increased parking enforcement, and when the next public meeting will be taking place to keep the momentum going. Staff will be using the input shared at this meeting to build upon Visitacion Ave. survey results and the Committee’s work from last year. Recommendations will focus on Visitacion Avenue with the potential to expand to San Bruno Ave. and the downtown area in the future, and presented to the Council at either their March 19th meeting, or their first meeting in April (4/2). Please stay tuned for updates right here via the Blast!

Routine Stop Results in Major Arrest

We want to recognize Corporal Valencia and K-9 Ringo for their role in the apprehension of a 36-year-old fugitive wanted out of Houston, Texas. The individual was wanted in connection with charges including aggravated sexual assault of a child under the age of 14 and two counts of indecency with a child involving sexual contact, stemming from an incident on October 6, 2021.

On January 22 at approximately 9:30 AM, Corporal Valencia conducted a routine traffic stop for a vehicle with no front license plate. During the stop, the driver was identified as the wanted subject and was taken into custody on an extradition warrant issued by Houston authorities. He was booked into the San Mateo County Jail and later extradited back to Texas. Great work, Corporal Valencia and Ringo!

City Launching New Website Tuesday, 2/24

We’re excited to announce the launch of our new "digital front door" on Tuesday, February 24th after months of community engagement and feedback. The new website will offer easier navigation menus, a cleaner look, and a smoother experience. Visitors can interact with the content from any desktop computer, smartphone, or tablet with ease. Check out the video below for a quick overview of the new site, which will feature the new domain, brisbaneca.gov, for improved cybersecurity and to meet the requirements of AB 1637 (approved in 2023) where cities and counties in California need to transition their public-facing websites and email addresses to a ".gov" or ".ca.gov" domain by January 1, 2029.

Latest Updates on "Parcel R" at Sierra Point

At their February 5, 2026 meeting, the City Council approved a contract and scope amendment for CMG Landscape Architecture to develop conceptual designs within the footprint of Parcel R. The goal is to produce a concept plan that reflects feasible park amenities informed by community input. Council also directed staff to bring forward a proposal for a geotechnical study of the site at a future Council meeting.

The proposed development at Parcel R, a 1.5-acre site owned by the City, has in the past year been studied in-depth by a Council Subcommittee comprised of Councilmembers Kern and Lentz. The Parks and Recreation Commission (and staff) are tasked with recommending refined concepts to the City Council, and their work is already underway.

The Parks and Recreation Commission at their February 11th meeting discussed key priorities and recommendations for the site. Their decision-making process considered geographic and financial limitations, accessibility compliance, placemaking, broad appeal across diverse user groups, longevity, durability and maintenance requirements, and overall connectivity. The Commission reached consensus regarding its highest priorities for the site, which include:

  1. Improved accessibility to the site and connectivity to adjacent areas. This may include enhancement of the current decomposed granite pathway to serve as an alternate to the existing Bay Trail, landscaping improvements, or extending sidewalks to improve safety.
  2. Strategic earthwork to create gathering spaces that are protected from the wind. This may include a plaza, amphitheater, picnic areas, or benches.
  3. Active recreation opportunities. This may include bike skills features, play amenities, or a designated area for food trucks to support special events.
  4. Public Art. This may include gateway signage to support placemaking, educational or historical installations, kinetic art, artful benches, or other public art installations.

Now, CMG is tasked with presenting to the Subcommittee: a 65% concept design for Parcel R in mid-March, a 95% concept design in mid-April, and a 100% concept design to the full Council at their May 7th City Council Meeting.

Draft Policy for Community Awareness Camera Heading to 3/5 City Council Meeting

On Thursday, February 12, residents gathered in the Sunrise Room for a Community Awareness Camera System demonstration and discussion hosted by City staff. The presentation featured Verkada’s camera technology and provided an overview of how the City may utilize a single camera at the Community Park as part of a proposed pilot program.

City staff shared that the camera would be used primarily for park usage analytics, helping the City better understand how the park is utilized and make more informed operational and planning decisions. The camera would also support efforts to protect park assets and improve overall awareness of activity in key areas. The meeting included thoughtful questions and a productive dialogue, with residents offering feedback and learning more about how the technology works and how data would be handled. As a next step, staff will prepare a draft policy for the City Council to review and potentially adopt at the March 5 City Council Meeting. If approved, the City would move forward with a free 90-day trial period to evaluate the system before making any long-term decisions.

Brisbane Village Helping Hands Celebrates Decade of Service

Members, volunteers, and well-wishers recently celebrated BVHH’s 10th anniversary at the Sunrise Room. The nonprofit, dedicated to helping those 55 and older “age in place” through helping with transportation, technology, and other services, has improved the lives of many Brisbane seniors by connecting them to volunteers willing to lend a hand.

It didn’t happen overnight. There were years of planning, research, and community outreach. The City offered financial support and a phone line. Ride Scheduler let BVHH pilot its app, which is still used to email requests for assistance, and allows volunteers to accept requests online. Unlike most villages, membership is available to any senior at no cost.

“We have come so far,” says Nancy Colman, founder and BVHH president. “And it really did take a village; we have thrived thanks to support from our volunteers, the City of Brisbane, the Lions Club, and donors.” Learn more about BVHH's incredible first decade of service in the March STAR. In the meantime, you can visit their website brisbanevillage.org; if you'd like to get involved, email brisbanevillagehelpinghands@gmail.com, or call (415) 508-2185.

New Vendor Alert at the Brisbane Farmers' Market: Whisker & Tail Co.

Whisker & Tail Co. Founders Joaquin and Christine were desperate. Their 130 lbs. Leonberger, Benny, was itching uncontrollably and he feared Benny would even lose an ear due to all the scratching, which resulted in oozing and painful inflammation. Turns out, Benny was suffering from food allergies to ingredients found often in dog food - beef, chicken, salmon, even peas and carrots! So, Joaquin and Christine set out to make all his raw food themselves, and Whisker & Tail Co. was born...single-ingredient and hormone-free treats, all consciously sourced. And yes, they have treats for cats, too!

Benny, left, with his sibling, Lara, is thriving today thanks to the loving care of his owners. Be sure to visit his dad Joaquin at the market on Thursdays, 2-6 PM in the Park!
