Reminder to Keep Dogs On Leash
On March 17th, the Brisbane Police Department started a POP project (26-01) in regards to complaints of dogs being off leash at the Community Park. They soon after began foot patrols to see if any visitors to the Park with their dogs were in violation of BMC 6.04.060, and have provided the following data points:
- Week 1 (March 17 - 24): 8 verbal warnings
- Week 2 (March 25 - 31): 2 verbal warnings
- Week 3 (Apr 1 - Apr 7): 2 verbal warnings
During this last week, officers spread out their observational areas to the field at Brisbane Elementary School and the area along Quarry Road. No violations have been observed in those areas. Please continue leashing your pup while enjoying these public spaces; the only location where they can run and play off leash in town is at the City's Dog Park.

Trash Talk: The Recipe for Compost
Making quality compost is something like baking a cake. There’s a list of ingredients that must be combined in just the right way. If you mix in things that don’t belong, or you use the wrong cooking times and temperatures, the finished product won’t turn out well.
South San Francisco Scavenger currently collects organic waste from the communities it serves, runs it through the anaerobic digestion process, and hauls it to a composting facility. There, a Covered Aerated Static Pile (CASP) system is used to transform organic waste into compost. The finished product is primarily sold to farms, but some is purchased by SSF Scavenger and brought back to the communities it serves.
On Sunday, May 3rd, South San Francisco Scavenger will be celebrating International Compost Awareness Week and Earth Day by hosting an open house. The event will run from 10 AM to 1 PM at 500 E. Jamie Ct. in SSF. A limited amount of finished compost will be available. Those who join the fun are sure to learn more about why it’s important to keep green bin contents free from plastics, pesticides, pet poop, and other contaminants - the quality of finished compost and of our overall environment depend on it! Please visit ssfscavenger.com/earthday for event details.
