Welcome to our latest Newsletter. The fact we're into July is mind-blowing - the pace of life in a school is what makes it so exciting! Thank you to Mr. Walton, Coach Marshall and Mr. Dickson for their brilliant support at the Local Sports Awards at the Holiday Inn, and to the families who attended. Our children achieved 2nd place overall and picked up a number of individual awards — a fantastic reflection of their dedication and teamwork. I am delighted with the efforts of everyone within our sports offer this year. Congratulations to our friends from Churchfield on their well-deserved success. A great night!
Our Year 6 Stars enjoyed Transition Day ‘Outwood Style’ this week as both Carlton & Shafton opened their doors. I have received positive feedback which is great to hear. I know they have made a super first impression.
Many thanks to Mr. Froggatt and our staff who organised our latest event for children with SEND. Again, I received lovely feedback from families.
Year 4 Lovelace had a fabulous trip to Skelton Grange exploring their science topic of Living Things and their Habitats with an activity packed itinerary including bug hunting and pond dipping. Thank you to the staff and volunteers for making this experience possible.
Yorkshire in Bloom judging took place at Birkwood. Well done to all of our ‘green fingers gang’ led by Miss Greenwood and David. We have everything crossed – if there were prizes for hosting special visitors, we’d be certain to bag an award! A great effort.
Our School Attendance FA Cup again allocated a prize to Year 1 Earps amongst others. Thank you for your support in this - the children love it! It even extended to me accessing my terrible French accent in Year 3 as well!
FA Cup Joint Winners Y2 Cox Class celebrated with a picnic too!
I must again take the opportunity to thank our dedicated Governing Body for their support throughout this year. We had our Term 3 Meeting this week as a full Body. I look forward to working with them to strengthen our offer even further.
Miss Taylor, Mrs. Whitfield & Mrs. Shaw led our Bingo event this week so huge appreciation goes to them and their army of helpers. Thank you to all of our families who attended the evening; it's proceeds will continue to assist the enrichment offer at Birkwood.
Thank you for supporting Non-Uniform and the ‘Bottles’ donations today. Summer Fair is nearly here!
Next week is Sports Day for Years 4,5 & 6. The forecast looks good and I know it will be a superb afternoon. Please remember hats, sun cream and a water bottle.
Whilst our World Cup at Birkwood continues, I have written to families around Sunday Night/ Monday Morning and the game between England and Mexico. Please attempt to order lunch through Arbor if you are planning a later start to the school day. This will help Sarah & the catering team enormously.
Have a really lovely weekend, enjoy the family time and of course, ‘Come on England!’ 🏴🏴🏴
I wanted to make you aware of an Inclusive What's Your Move Day, which is taking place next Thursday 9 July 9am-5pm at Barnsley Metrodome. This free event is specifically for children and young people with disabilities and long-term health conditions who are interested in becoming more physically active. The day will provide opportunities to try different activities, meet local providers and find out what opportunities are available across Barnsley.
