The Blast City Manager Dennis' Weekly Update | May 7, 2025

If you follow us on our socials, namely Facebook and Instagram, you saw that our feed this past week has been full of photos from last Saturday's very successful Walk for Awareness, and Ice Bucket Challenge videos! This trend was started by a group of students from the University of South Carolina who wanted to raise awareness for mental health and break down the stigma. Once the City Manager's Office was nominated by our Brisbane Parks and Recreation Department last Wednesday, Mayor Lentz, Brisbane Police Chief Lisa Macias and North County Fire Chief Ron Myers, myself, and just yesterday, Brisbane City Councilmembers Davis and Kern, along with Brisbane School Board Members Boggs and Oquendo and Superintendent Bui, have completed the challenge. We thank them all for being such excellent sports!

Remember, you are NOT ALONE. If you need support, please call or text 988; additional resources, along with information about events you can attend in town, can be found here on our website.

See Me Flags Being Added to San Bruno Ave.

City staff continue to engage with residents around traffic-related concerns along Visitacion and San Bruno. Per those engagements, See Me flags have been installed on San Bruno at Monterey, with additional ones planned for installation at San Bruno and Mariposa.

We encourage their use, especially among young people, who are sometimes harder for motorists to see right away.

Homelessness Prevention & Emergency Financial Assistance Program for Seniors

San Mateo County’s Homelessness Prevention and Emergency Financial Assistance program assists eligible county residents with funding for critical needs to support housing, such as past due rent, or security deposits to assist community members to move into housing. This program is accessed at each of the Core Service Agencies, which each serve a region of the County. Brisbane's Core Service Agency is the YMCA Community Resource Center.

New this year, the Homelessness Prevention and Financial Assistance program has a specific set-aside to assist eligible seniors, defined as eligible households with at least one resident who is 60 years or older.

Brisbane residents can contact the YMCA Community Resource Center to apply for emergency financial assistance. They also provide satellite office hours at the Library each Monday between 1-4 PM. Please call ahead to make an appointment or email them at crc@ymcasf.org.

Community Park Refresh Projects Completed!

We thank the public for their patience as several projects were getting completed concurrently between late April and the first half of May at the Community Park.
The poured-in-place rubber surfacing received a top-coat application and all the wood elements of the playground were repainted. They have a nice pop of yellow now! The fencing came down Tuesday afternoon.
The bathrooms were also refreshed with new paint, re-coated floors, a new hand dryer inside of the restrooms to reduce paper waste, and new and refinished stainless steel fixtures. We hope you'll stop to notice the refreshed amenities the next time you're at the park!

Wildfire Awareness Event at City Hall Recap

This year's Wildfire Awareness Event was held indoors on a weekday, from 5-8 PM in an attempt to catch folks after work. It had a steady stream of people who came by to see how to sign up for SMC Alert, and know which zone they're in (enter an address or Zone ID into the search bar to check the status of the area). The Long-Range Acoustical Device (LRAD) was also on display next to Brisbane PD's table so residents could see the speaker that goes atop an emergency vehicle and can be utilized to share real-time emergency/evacuation information. It's tested from various parts in town; we'll be sure to send out an SMC Alert the next time it's being tested.

Testing out his new flashlight by shining a light on his family's zone, written on the magnet they took home. Central Brisbane is Zone 2 vs. the Ridge, which is Zone 1.
