University Spotlights
Interested in Science? We suggest taking these courses!
Are you considering something related to science but aren’t sure which? Here are a few things you might need to know, some science classes that would cover some of your general education requirements, and a few exploratory classes! Learn more about College of Science majors!
If you’re thinking of going into a science major, make sure you meet the MATH requirements for that specific major. Most College of Science majors require MATH 1050 (QL) and a lot of major classes require MATH 1010 or MATH 1050 before you can take them. If you are starting with a low math placement, make sure to start on the math pathway as early as possible!
If you want to explore some College of Science classes, here are some good classes (a few of them meet General Education requirements as well!) If you’re interested in space or how the world works, try some of our physics classes, starting with PHYS 1010 (PS). Not sure if you’ll like science but want to try something interesting? Try taking a Microbiology class such as MICR 2054 (LS). Thinking you might like plants or rocks? Try out some of our Botany or Geology classes, such as BTNY 1203 (LS) or GEO 1110 (PS), with GEO 1115.
Keep in mind that some Science degrees require certain classes that would also count for General Education classes, such as CHEM 1210 (PS), which is required for most College of Science majors but also fills the Physical Science (PS) requirement for General Education. Remember to take CHEM 1210, you need to take CHEM 1200 & MATH 1010 first!
Academic Advisors Spotlight
C. Smith, College of Science
I'm a big science nerd, so I feel right at home in the College of Science! I love supporting science students throughout their educational journeys. I also teach as an adjunct in Zoology, where my favorite part is sharing weird and wonderful animal facts. My hobbies include pinning insects, writing poetry, and creating other forms of art. But my favorite way to spend time is with my little bestie, my 3-year-old son.
Anahi Silva, General Studies & Exploratory Advising
My name is Anahi Silva, and I’ve been part of the Weber State community for over ten years now. I was born and raised right here in Ogden and first joined Weber through Ballet Folclórico, which sparked my love for campus life and connection. Now, as a General Studies and Exploratory Advisor, I get to help students find their path and make the most of their college experience! Weber has truly become a family affair—my sister just started her first semester, my mom is earning a certificate, and I’m wrapping up my final semester of my master’s program. You could say we bleed purple in my family! 💜
