Kia ora e te whānau, and welcome to Term 2. There were lots of smiles as everyone arrived back this week (parents included!) and the children have all settled well back into their learning. A very special welcome to our 7 new students and their families, who we will formally welcome in our Whakatau next Tuesday. Term 2 is a very busy term, so please do keep on top of all the upcoming events so we can be prepared together.

Term 1 Attendance
We are proud to share our attendance data for Term 1, 2026. This is a big target of the current Government and was one of the outcomes focused on in our ERO review last year. Thanks to the support of our families, we have surpassed the national target in Term 1 as 83% of our students attended school more than 90% of the term. A particular celebration of our Year 4 and Year 6 students, where 100% of the students attended school regularly in Term 1.
If your child was in the moderate or chronic absence category, you will have received a letter offering the support of the school to help your child attend school regularly this term. Our families have been great at communicating with the office about why students might be away and we are committed to working together to improve attendance as we know the link this has to learning progress.
Swimming Lessons This Term!
Weeks 3 and 4 of this term are our intensive swimming lessons at Northern Arena for this year. More info about how each day works will come out next week, but to ensure plenty of time for planning, children will need to bring the following each day from Monday 4th May until Friday 15th May:
- Togs
- Towel
- Swimming Cap
- Goggles
Hero - Your Child's Learning Progress
The Learning Content on Hero will be available from this term. You can expect to see a Class Post once a fortnight (alternate to school newsletter weeks). This post gives an insight into the different learning happening in your child's class. You will also be able to see recently completed and current goals your child is working on. At the end of the term, mid year reports will be available to view. As our teachers will be navigating changes to the reporting system, there will be no individual reading, writing or mathematics posts this term. As the term progresses, we will share more information about the updated reporting requirements.
Kaitiakitanga in Action
Our students' kaitiakitanga efforts were recognised in the latest newsletter of Restore Hibiscus and Bays.
We hope you all have a great week and keep warm and healthy as this weather starts changing.
