Sectional Schedule
Sectionals Begin This Week for Concert Band I (Symphonic Winds Continued)
The concert bands at Rogers Middle School will be hosting weekly sectionals throughout the year. Sectionals are required rehearsals held before and after-school with like-instruments. Sectionals allow us to work in smaller groups and on more specialized material. Sectional attendance is paramount for the advancement of individual and group achievement in performance techniques, style and mastery of various musical projects we work on throughout the year. Below are commonly asked questions concerning sectionals.
Who participates in sectionals?
All concert bands (no beginners) participate in weekly sectionals held throughout the year. Every concert band (Symphonic Winds, Concert Band I & Concert Band II) will follow a different schedule, which will be distributed in the weekly Roger Band News.
How is the sectional schedule made? What times do sectionals begin?
We make every effort to avoid as many student conflicts as possible. Our students participate in TONS of activities! Before forming the sectional schedule, we ask students to fill out a form of known schedule conflicts (sports practice, church, etc). We take that information and try to schedule their section on days and times with the fewest amount of conflicts. There are issues that arise from time to time that we cannot work around as we have a limited amount of days and a bunch of sections to get through! The directors have great working relationships with all of our coaches at Rogers and try to work around any practice conflicts so that the student can participate in all activities. The band hall is open by 7:00am and closes around 5:00pm during sectional days to work around any ride issues. Morning sectionals are from 7:05am to 8:05am and after-school sectionals are from 3:35pm-4:45pm.
How many days a week is my student required to attend a week? Can my student go to another sectional if they are unable to attend their scheduled sectional?
Only one sectional per week is required! The purpose of sectionals is to work with like-instruments which allows us to focus on instrument specific materials. While we understand that conflicts do arise, it is important that students make every effort to attend THEIR SECTIONAL, as the effectiveness is severely limited if they have to attend another instrumental group’s sectional.
Hawaiian Falls Celebration
It’s TIME!!!!!! This upcoming Thursday, August 31st is the Rogers/Reynolds/Rushing/Hays Band Hawaiian Falls Social! All students that have turned in their Hawaiian Falls Money are to meet at Hawaiian Falls in The Colony at 5pm and picked up at 8pm. As mentioned on the flyer, there is no transportation provided. Once there, your student will be able to select from a hamburger, hotdog or vegetarian option dinner. Make sure to bring your swim suit and towel. No goggles or other swimming accessories are allowed in the park. With so many students attending from all 4 middle schools, please consider carpooling with other students to help with traffic.
NO Student Transportation Provided - Students must have their own ride to and from Hawaiian Falls. We recommend carpooling.
Parents who have already signed up to be a chaperone will receive an email with details. Thank you for volunteering your time!!
Practice Records and Objective Sheets
Students will begin receiving their practice records and objective sheets over the next week. Consistent daily practice is vital to the success of your student on their instrument. We use weekly objectives to help students reach individual and group goals. Our objectives are passed off in person during class, sectionals and some in google classroom. While only one or two objectives are due each week, students are more than welcome to work at their own pace and turn in objectives early. Practice records are due each Tuesday with a parent signature. Beginners will get their practice records and objective sheets soon.
Private Lessons – Sign-up Now!!
To see a list of all of our private lesson teacher’s and bios, please visit https://www.rogersband.com/private-lessons-1 . With over 300+ students in the Rogers Band Program, their studios fill quickly, so the sooner you can make contact the better to ensure your student’s spot.
We have a limited amount of financial aid for students throughout the school year. Parents will need to reapply each year to request consideration for private lesson financial aid, even if the student received financial aid from the previous year. We do this to help keep our records up to date and to ensure the need still remains. The application is available on the band website at www.rogersband.com/financial-aid-for-private-lessons . All completed applications should be sent directly to Mr. Ferman. If you have any questions about private lessons, please contact any of the directors.
