Forty-two incredible years of service to the City! It’s unheard of, and only because he cared so much. You are missed, Albert. Thank you for being the City of Brisbane’s fearless IT Administrator all these years. A $150 donation was made to Nine Lives Foundation in Albert’s name to help rescue and care for homeless and at-risk cats and kittens. Happy, well-earned Retirement, Albert! "See Me" Flags Installed at Key Intersections on Visitacion Ave.
At their March 6th City Council meeting, the Council authorized staff to install “see me” flag stations at key intersections on Visitacion. Last week, Public Works Buildings & Grounds crew members did just that at Visitacion & Monterey and Visitacion & Mendocino (where there are 2-way stops).
So when you’re out walking, and want to cross at any corner, grab a “see me” flag and return it into the small bucket on the other side.
City Council Meetings Starting an Hour Earlier at 6:30 PM
As noted in the April STAR, Council Meetings are held on the 1st and 3rd Thursdays of every month and will begin at 6:30 PM instead of 7:30 PM, starting with tomorrow's April 3, 2025 meeting. An ordinance change was required as the day and time for regular meetings of the City Council is reflected in the City's Municipal Code; the Council adopted this ordinance revision at their February 6th Council meeting. Note: City Council Closed Session meetings will now occur immediately following the Council's meeting as-needed.

Brisbane Elementary Named a 2025 California Distinguished School
We are celebrating with the Brisbane School District following last week's announcement that Brisbane Elementary School has been recognized as a 2025 California Distinguished School!
Out of 10,430 elementary schools in California, only 336 were selected for this prestigious honor - and Brisbane Elementary is one of just 12 schools in San Mateo County to receive the recognition this year.
This recognition reflects the hard work and commitment of our students, staff, and families in creating an environment where every child can grow and succeed. - Superintendent Nancy Bui
Since its inception in 1985, the Distinguished Schools Award has stood as one of the highest honors a California school can receive. It celebrates excellence, innovation, and the belief that strong public education can shape bright futures.
Congratulations to the Brisbane Elementary School community on this outstanding achievement!

Brisbane Community Benefits from Peninsula Clean Energy
Peninsula Clean Energy (PCE) recently shared with us their community benefits for Brisbane -- $3.2M in savings for Brisbane customers since 2016! Across San Mateo County, PCE has saved customers $187M on their energy bills since 2016. Most importantly, they've reduced greenhouse gas emissions from electricity use by 98% countywide compared to when they launched in 2016.
Probably the most significant way Peninsula Clean Energy is helping Brisbane is by way of $1.1M in assistance for upgrading the pool's heater. The Brisbane Community Pool alone represents 75% of the City’s municipal emissions and electrifying will save the equivalent in emissions of electrifying 100 homes. It will also save the City more than $25,000 per year in energy costs.
We're grateful for the City's continued, strong partnership with PCE and want to close by reminding you that it's now easier and more affordable to use clean energy; homeowners can save thousands of dollars with rebates and other incentives at peninsulacleanenergy.com/residential/rebates-offers.

CPRS President's Award to Nicole Houghton!
A huge congratulations to Recreation Supervisor, Nicole Houghton, who was surprised to find herself called onstage in front of thousands of her colleagues as this year's recipient of the President's Award at the California Parks & Recreation Society’s annual conference in Sacramento. Nicole recently finished her term as the President of District 4, which includes San Francisco, San Mateo, and Santa Clara counties. She was at the conference to present a session on mental health titled "Broken Crayons Still Color," addressing mental health issues and how they intersect with the work of parks and recreation staff throughout the state. Congratulations, Nicole, on this well-deserved and highly distinguished award!

Successful Closure of Bayshore Blvd. for Accident Reconstruction Investigation
Last Wednesday, March 26, Bayshore Blvd. between Old County & San Bruno needed to be closed following Monday morning's hit-and-run collision near 3700 Bayshore Blvd. We thank the public for their patience during the 3-hour closure so that the County's Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) could conduct an in-depth analysis at the collision site. See the pre-planning and coordination that went into this event from Public Works, Police, and the City Manager's Office, not to mention agencies such as Caltrans, who closed exit 426A, in this video.
