Japan - Day 8 December 30, 2023. Team Lab, Ginza.

Woke up early and headed out for a coffee at a local chain. No independent coffee shops were open.

Way to start the day ☹️. Headed out to TeamLab - didn’t realize I left my bag at the hotel until we were at the train station. I had my PASMO and my credit cards but not our passports. As a foreigner in Japan you are required to always carry your passport. Police can pull you aside at any time to request it.

Too late to go back to the hotel otherwise we would miss our reservation. Hope we will not need to present our passports to get in.

I thought TeamLab was ok. Kirk liked it a lot more than I did. I think it was more of an Instagram thing in my opinion but I’m not very cultured. I probably would have enjoyed it more if people weren’t yelling (not talking but yelling), running around and touching stuff.

Of all the exhibits I enjoyed the ball room, the room with the flowers scrolling across the ceiling and the outdoor sculptures the most. I don’t have the same level of understanding/appreciation of art as Kirk so I’m probably not the target audience. I think if we were able to read the description of each room before entering I would have gotten more out of it.

Kyle left to explore on his own in Tokyo.

I had been looking forward to visiting the Dover Street Market again. It didn't disappoint. No photos allowed inside though.

After Kyle left, Kali figured she should head out and explore on her own too... here's a screenshot part way through the day when the kids were on their own.

Kali and I have been buying so much clothing that we bought a new suitcase from Muji.

We HAD to buy a new suitcase to carry back all the new purchases. We always carry an Arcteryx bag when we travel just for this purpose, but this time it was not enough.

Met up with the kids back at the hotel before going out to dinner.

Back to Akihabara.
