The Blast City Manager Dennis' Weekly Update | July 2, 2025

Tuesday was a lively Age-Friendly Subcommittee Meeting at City Hall. We appreciated seeing and hearing from so many engaged residents as Mayor Lentz and Councilmember Kern identified over 30 priorities from the AARP-approved and Council-adopted Age-Friendly Action Plan to focus on. The next step is to meet with the Brisbane task force members who were instrumental in providing input and guidance in developing the Plan. That meeting will be posted on the Upcoming Meetings page (which is done on the Friday prior to the meeting date, to be in line with Brown Act requirements), in addition to being physically posted on the Community Center, Mission Blue, and City Hall posting boards.

200+ Responses for 70 Old County Rd. Vision Concepts Survey!

Thank you to everyone who took the survey to rank your top 3 vision concepts, as well as contribute new ideas for the former Bank of America site. Wondering what the next steps are? Staff will have survey results in mid-July to share, and will be popping up at the 7/25 Concert in the Park. Staff is also discussing an open house at the site in early September...we'll share more information on that in the weeks to come! Once the public engagement process has concluded, staff will work with our consultants to present the public's feedback to the City Council. That meeting is slated to take place in the Fall and will be announced using the usual methods, along with our signboards and social media channels.

To learn more about the project, please visit brisbaneca.org/70OldCounty.

And know that right now on Engage Brisbane, you can submit your nomination for Volunteer of the Year and vote on your Short-Film selection(s) for IDEA's Short-Film Festival, slated for later this year (likely November).

Happy Parks and Rec Month!

Last Thursday's City Council meeting started with the Council proclaiming July as Parks and Recreation Month. Parks and Recreation Director Noreen Leek was on-hand to receive the evening's proclamation, highlighting the smattering of representation in the room, from afterschool and summer camp Rec Leaders, lifeguards, Parks and Recreation Commissioners, and an Age-Friendly Task Force member...their great impact on the community is felt far and wide!

Check out the following video which was presented to the Council, appended earlier this week with the group photo with Council, Proclamation, and July Parks and Rec Month Calendar!

City Partners with Brisbane-Based Avive Solutions for Smart AEDs

You may have noticed the small, white and black wall-mounted devices at the Library, City Hall Annex, Harbormaster's Office, and North County Fire Authority HQ and wondered what they were. They're automated external defibrillators (AEDs) that weigh slightly over 2 pounds, produced by AED manufacturing company Avive Solutions, which is based right here in Brisbane at 185 Valley.

They recently put together a case study, which covers how the Police Department's Motor Division carries them now, allowing for every active patrol vehicle in Brisbane to be equipped with an AED.

Courts Seeing an Increase in Jury Duty Scams

The San Mateo County Superior Court reports seeing an increase in jury duty scams where residents are being asked to make payments for failing to appear. The scammers pose as law enforcement officials or court employees and contact residents via phone, text, email, or mail, claiming payment is due to clear false warrants and fines. The Court reminds the public that at no time will law enforcement or the Court contact jurors to request payment, threaten arrest, or require them to turn themselves in for missing jury service. Targeted individuals should report the incident to local law enforcement and notify Juror Services at JuryMaster@sanmateocourt.org.

Lyrical Opposition Celebrates 10 Years as a Non-Profit

There was cause for celebration this past Saturday at Mission Blue, as Lyrical Opposition, based in town at 132 Visitacion, marked 10 years as a local non-profit organization. They put on quite a show with "Lyrical Legacy", which was free to the public and included poetry, spoken word, hip-hop, and trailers for their independent short films. Like any non-profit, their work relies on the generous donations of those who support their work. If that's you, you can donate here.
