With warmer days ahead, a place to rest, relax, and rejuvenate is welcome, especially at the base of Quarry Road Trail. Thank you to Bright Event Rentals for donating three sturdy picnic tables, which were placed last Thursday with the help of Keegan and Zack from Public Works and former Volunteer of the Year Paul Bouscal. Stay tuned for stewardship opportunities in this area with Brisbane Cares. In the meantime, fill out a Volunteer Interest Form or Group Volunteer Interest Form so that city staff can contact you when those volunteer opportunities arise.

4/9 Red Curb Painting Recap
Many hands make light work! On April 9th, volunteers showed up at 9:30 AM to paint four curbs along San Francisco Street - between Inyo and Visitacion - marked as “no parking” zones due to AB 413, California’s Daylighting Law that went into effect January 1, 2025. This law prohibits parking within 20 feet of a crosswalk or stop sign approach, aiming to improve pedestrian visibility. After a helpful demonstration from our Public Works team, volunteers painted the remaining curbs and even began work on Visitacion Ave.!
The day ended with a tasty sandwich lunch from newly-opened The Parlour House on Visitacion Ave, enjoyed under the sunny sky on new picnic tables at the base of Quarry Road Trail.
We hope this curb painting event will be the first of many this summer. If you’re interested in joining another event, use the Volunteer Interest Form found at: brisbaneca.gov/737/Brisbane-Cares.

Alvarado-San Benito Stairway Ribbon Cutting, 4/25
It's amazing that what once was just an informal dirt trail leading down from San Benito to Alvarado has become the beautiful stairway it is today. Before the stairwell could be constructed, the City’s water main that runs in this area first needed to be rehabilitated. Check out this picture from August 2023 when DPW engineering and field staff took a site visit to the intersection of intersection of Sierra Point & San Benito.
The final touches have been added to the newly-transformed stairway with decorative lighting features that are a true marvel...it's ready to be officially opened now with a ribbon-cutting!
Please do plan to walk to the event if possible, especially since Alvarado St. will be closed between San Bruno Ave. and Visitacion from 9:30-10:30 AM. Thank you.

Final Reminder For Now to Keep Dogs On Leash
On March 17th, the Brisbane Police Department started a POP project (26-01) in regards to complaints of dogs being off leash at the Community Park. They soon after began foot patrols to see if any visitors to the Park or Quarry Rd. Trail with their dogs were in violation of BMC 6.04.060, and have provided the following data points:
- Week 1 (March 17 - 24): 8 verbal warnings
- Week 2 (March 25 - 31): 2 verbal warnings
- Week 3 (Apr 1 - Apr 7): 2 verbal warnings
- Week 4 (Apr 8 - Apr 15): 1 verbal warning
A total of 43.95 hours of directed enforcement was conducted during this period by our officers as well as our Code Enforcement Officer. Please continue leashing your pup while enjoying these public spaces; the only location where they can run and play off leash in town is at the City's Dog Park.
Moving forward, violators of the City's Leash Law will be issued an administrative citation (immediate $100 for a first-time offense). Thank you for doing your part in keeping our public spaces safe for all its users!

Save the Date for Bike to Work Day, 5/14
Bike to Wherever Days is Silicon Valley Bicycle Coalition’s transformation of the traditional Bike to Work Day. And the City of Brisbane will once again be hosting an Energizer Station at Lagoon & Tunnel on Thursday, May 14th from 6-9 AM!
In pre-pandemic times, on a single day, thousands of bike commuters would take to the streets annually on Bike to Work Day, swooping in to pick up swag bags and celebrating bicycle life with other cyclists at fun Energizer Stations on the way to work. Then came working from home, and then the rise of hybrid work schedules. Bike to Wherever Days. The traditional Bike to Work Day takes place on a Thursday, this year on May 14, with all the hoopla and Energizer Station fun you’d expect. The fun continues with Bike to Wherever Days on Friday and Saturday May 15-16, with more fun events and Energizer Stations for riders across both counties. While Bike to Wherever Days are May 14-16, the entire month of May is national Bike Month, with celebrations, events and fun throughout. And why not have a full summer of fun? Find free classes, family rides, and more bike fun on their events calendar and Eventbrite.

Contribute to the County's Local Hazard Mitigation Plan (LHMP) Update
This Earth Month, take a moment to reflect on our environment and climate - and join us in shaping important updates to help our community reduce risks from earthquakes, extreme heat, flooding, hazardous materials incidents, and other threats we all care about.
The Multijurisdictional Local Hazard Mitigation Plan, originally approved in 2021, was developed through a collaborative regional effort to reduce risks from natural hazard risks, such as floods, wildfires, earthquakes, and severe weather. The plan, which outlines projects, policies, and preparedness actions to strengthen resilience, is now due for an update in accordance with Federal Emergency Management Agency's (FEMA) 2022 policy revisions. The County's Department of Emergency Management is once again leading the LHMP update and would like to hear from the public how various hazards have impacted (or could impact) your place of residence/work, community, and/or organization.
Simple actions like reading LHMP materials, sharing information with neighbors, or providing feedback during the public comment period strengthen the whole community’s ability to prepare, respond, and recover. Thank you for contributing to the County's Local Hazard Mitigation Plan!
