We will communicate every day by 2pm as to the time and location of all levels practices via TALKING POINTS and posting to the website (make sure to REFRESH the page on every visit to get the most up to date information). www.kitslacrosse.com
All players at ALL Levels must be prepared to practice outdoors as well as indoors. Information on all the possible options we have for practice space Week 1 is available on the team website.
Varsity tryouts will go from 3/3 - until 3/5. JV/FS will conclude over the weekend. Exact locations will be announced closer to the dates, depending on weather.
Evaluation Criteria:
- Stick Skills & Fundamentals (Passing, catching, shooting, ground balls).
- Lacrosse IQ & Decision-Making (Reads, reaction, movement, spacing).
- Athleticism & Conditioning (Speed, endurance, agility).
- Effort & Coach-ability (Hustle, listening, adaptability).
- Team Play & Communication (Leadership, unselfish play).
- Game & Situational Play.
- Fitness Test: 440 & 12 Min 2 Mile.
Fitness tests and Preparation:
As a reminder we have implemented 2 fitness tests-
- 2 miles in 12 minutes
- 440 test (PLEASE READ)
440 Times - (based on last year’s average and median times. These are passable with effort!):
- 440 1 - 68 Seconds
- 5 MIN BREAK
- 440 2- 76 Seconds
- 5 MIN BREAK
- 440 3- 85 Seconds
*Goalies will have to complete the tests but will not have to make the times.
We are still undecided on how to implement both of these, so stay tuned. That being said, you should be able to pass either on day one as a varsity lacrosse player. This is a challenge but not unachievable!
We will be taking precautions to make sure hockey players do not injure themselves with the change in conditioning from skating to running. Please do your part to avoid injury by coming into the spring season prepared to run.
Meet the Coaches:
Geron Williams - Head Freshman Coach
1. What inspired you to start coaching lacrosse?
Wanting to give back, I was available and young and wanted to share my understanding of the game.
2. What's your favorite memory from playing or coaching?
Favorite memory, first or second year coach went 8-2 with only 12 kids (dirty dozen) (4 were brand new) felt good as a coach to make it happen with low numbers.
3. Favorite player/coach?
Will Clark/Adam Hughes - first lacrosse coach - he invested into me (first stick and gloves), and showed me how everyone has a spot in lacrosse. Hughes, gave me 5 diamonds the rest is history.
4. Favorite book or movie? Why?
Favorite book - “The Four Agreements”, favorite movie - “Drive”. Four agreements - simple rules to live by. “Drive” not to many words; just straight business.
