Cylchlythyr Ysgol Saltney Ferry

"Cydweithio, gallwn gyd llwyddo."

I am delighted to say that the LA and Governors have asked me to stay for the Autumn term as Headteacher. I am thoroughly enjoying working with your children and the staff here in Saltney Ferry. We have two new teaching staff starting in September, Mrs Smithers and Mr Roberts, both of whom are bringing experience and have lots of ideas to further support the curriculum. You will get to meet them both on the induction days coming up later this month. This week in the staff meeting we have started to plan for the Autumn term - some exciting new topics are on the way. Have a lovely weekend L. Williams Headteacher

Small Steps Playgroup

We have had lots of fun enjoying our new toys. In the outdoor area we have had a new sand pit and a BBQ! We have enjoyed using our fine manipulative skills to make kebabs. In the sand pit we have been making different shapes and using our imagination skills to drive a boat. Inside we have had a new mark making area. We have enjoyed using our motor skills to paint on a large scale. What a fabulous week!

This week in Dosbarth Alwen, we have been exploring different fruits through a fun sensory investigation. The children wore blindfolds and used their senses to taste a variety of fruits, describing them using exciting vocabulary and language. We then collected our results and created a pictograph to show our favourite fruits. Our Nursery children have been working hard on recognising numbers to 5 and matching quantities to the correct numerals.  Reception children have been using their developing phonological skills to draw their favourite fruits and write words, phrases, and simple sentences to describe them.  We have all enjoyed practising for Sports Day together and cannot wait to showcase our skills next week!

This week we have continued to explore places in Italy. We used Google earth to look at Venice to see all the canals there we compared them to rivers and canals in Wales. We explored water colour paints to create our own pictures of canals and rivers. The children blew us away with their drawing and painting skills and produced some wonderful pictures.  We continued with time in math and looked at digital time and matching the times to analog times.

Our literacy this week we looked at some pictures based on Italy and journeys the children had to write on post it notes what they could see in the pictures. We then wrote simple sentences on our books remembering capital letters and full stops and adding adjectives to use on our own stories we write later.

Dosbarth Tegid have greatly enjoyed learning about a new cultural story from Mexico and prompted discussion on our earth, caring for each other and being thankful. In our maths skills we have continued to develop our ability to build graphs and even had a go at drawing them in our books. Plenty of learning outdoors in our Udeskole day. We've explored habitats, colours and where bugs like to live.

This week Dosbarth Brenig have begun their class story, full of magic and mischief on a journey to Portugal. Great use of descriptive language and love of listening to stories.

We have explored our skills of graphs in maths reading data from Portugal, digitally creating graphs and plotting them too in our books. We also got to work alongside some of our friends from Dosbarth Gwynant!

We have had another busy, but fun filled week in Dosbarth Gwynant!  We have started to plan and design characters ready for when we write our own Hawaiian inspired myths in the coming weeks. Lots of creativity being shown in our writing, extending sentences further and adding in exciting vocabulary! Year 6 had a wonderful time at the Passion for Learning Careers Carnival on Wednesday, getting the chance to explore countless career opportunities, talking to professionals, and taking part in fun activities. What a wonderful experience! We were blown away, especially by the maturity, responsibility and curiosity Year 6 demonstrated!  We then enjoyed our country rotation morning on Friday, immersing ourselves in the culture and practises of our countries, ready to get excited for sports day next week!

Fferm Y Ferry

Our Ferry Farmers have been working hard and with our parents too at the weekend. We've plenty planned to develop our garden area and thanks to our community we are well on the way to making room for our next project. Watch this space! This week in Clwb Ffermio we tidied over the plants, cleared a new area for our remaining potted seeds and even made use of Denise' sheep wool to protect our new patch.

Community / Cymuned

At the heart of our little area is our community. From our pupils planting seeds to families volunteering their time to develop our school grounds. We are incredibly grateful to all our families that have donated time over the last 18 months to develop our projects in the garden and school farm. If you do pass the bridge by the cycle path, the wild seeds have taken hold and look amazing. From our project with Countryside and Coast it will make a difference to biodiversity in our area. We've more planned for our local area in Spring.

A lot going on next week. Any questions please do pop and see us in reception.
