The only place to start this week is to say ‘Happy Birthday Birkwood!’ Our lovely school is 69 Years Old as of May 4th – Star Wars Day as one of the children reminded me in Assembly too! Some incredible memories, events and learning have taken place right here! Our school has served our #IncredibleCommunity for so long now and I thank everybody again for the care and support that we are shown every single day. Days like this never fail in making me reflect on what a privilege it is to work here every day.
Our Year 3 Superstars have loved their Library Trips this week. Cudworth Library is just terrific, and it has been wonderful to see and hear them enjoying this special, local resource. Please engage with the library – you won’t be disappointed.
Year 3 Jemison had a terrific visit to Exhibition Barnsley at Barnsley Town Hall where they took part in a fascinating Ancient Egypt workshop inspired by our local and renowned Egyptologist Joann Fletcher. The children explored the mysteries of Ancient Egyptian life, discovering how people lived, worked and worshipped thousands of years ago. Test out their expertise around pharaohs, pyramids, hieroglyphics and mummification! They saw history brought to life through artefacts, discussion and interactive activities. The staff were extremely proud of the children for their enthusiasm, excellent behaviour and superb interactions during the visit.
I wrote to families with RSE Information Dates. Please see the letter. This is an area of the curriculum that is sensitive. As always, I will share lesson materials to all parents via email in addition to the meetings that we have scheduled. Safety is the key message!
Well done to our Y3/4 girls , many of who haven’t played together before. We missed out on the final narrowly and finished up 4th after the 3/4th place playoff
Next week is Year 6 SATs Week - I would like to thank all of our children and staff for their hard work, dedication and wonderful attitudes throughout the year. Our Year 6 superstars have shown the Birkwood value of 100% effort repeatedly, and we are absolutely delighted with their determination. SATs are just one part of their journey, and the children should already feel proud of everything they have achieved. It is a fantastic way to lead into the exciting London visit that follows, which will be a well-deserved opportunity to celebrate their efforts from their whole career at Birkwood together. As we often hear – ‘You can only try your best and nobody will or can ask any more.’ We subscribe to this! There will be a free Breakfast Club on offer for Y6 Children from 8am Monday - Thursday Next Week.

Appropriate trainers must be worn. No crop tops – Sports t-shirts please and shorts. A tracksuit may be worn – please make a judgment on temperature. NO JEWELLERY.
