The TRUE STORIES of UA Students! ...scroll down for Digital Storytelling projects from this semester

In ESOC 300, students study the rudiments of storytelling -- as expressed orally, in written form, and ultimately, digitally.

THEN, students create a personal story, expressed digitally, mixing any forms or media they're interested in. BELOW, you can find several unique, personal stories delivered in very different ways:

Student Stories:

  1. VIDEO MEMOIR: overcoming adversity in a 6 min. audio/visual story
  2. INTERACTIVE SHELF: filled with personal artifacts, each with its own story
  3. HORROR STORIES ON YOUR PHONE: an Adobe XD prototype; subtly unsettling personal stories, formatted for mobile
  4. INTERACTIVE MAP AS TRAVELOGUE: a memorable, cultural, complicated trip
  5. WEBCOMIC: finding friends on a first sojourn to a Con, styled as homage to a favorite webcomic
  6. WEBSITE MEMOIR: four chapters/eras in one student's life, finding pride in her heritage

1: Video Memoir

I love the writing & audio delivery of this story, combined with simple (yet hypnotic and symbolic) visuals.

Project 2: Interactive Shelf of Curiosities

This student had never built a webpage before, but they conjured up -- and hand drew -- this really compelling creation:

Project 3: Adobe XD & chilling tales

These brief stories don't offer the shocks of a standard horror movie. Instead, this student's real stories might dig into one's psyche in a more subtle yet unsettling way...

Project 4: Travelogue Map

This student kept trying to find the right way to digitally illustrate the story of a significant trip, and I love the form they finally found.

Project 5: Webcomic

Hit "Slideshow" (upper right) for full effect. This student had never put together a story with her own drawings and narration; then, she created this cool, compelling story expressing a personal style.

Project 6: Web Memoir

This student went from being nervous about sharing her story to being proud to share it. I think you'll see why:
