Three Otselic Valley sixth grade students were recognized as winners of this year's Memorial Day Essay Contest. As part of the contest, students were asked to respond to the prompt, "What does the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier represent?" The assignment encouraged students to reflect on the significance of Memorial Day and the sacrifices made by members of the United States Armed Forces.
This year's winners were Eli Miller, who earned first place, Aria Rothwell, who earned second place, and Lakyn Lemin, who earned third place.
The students were recognized during the Memorial Day ceremony at the South Otselic Cemetery, where they had the opportunity to read their essays following the community parade. Their thoughtful responses highlighted the importance of remembrance, service, and honoring those who have given their lives in defense of the nation.
Congratulations to the winners and thank you to all of the students who participated. Appreciation is also extended to the Legion members who volunteered their time to read and evaluate the essays.
