Digital Media

Digital Media 1 spent the month exploring a range of photography compositions, focusing on how different angles, lighting, and framing techniques can change the overall impact of an image. As part of this, there was a trip to Balboa Park where students were given an assignment to capture specific scenes, putting their skills into practice in a real-world setting. The photos taken during this trip are being prepared and will be presented after returning from break. Year 2 students have been working on creating mini documentaries, tying into their MSJC articulation work. These projects focus on storytelling, planning, and editing, giving students a chance to develop more advanced production skills while working on meaningful, structured pieces. Year 3 students are currently focused on their final portfolios. This is a culmination of their work and growth in the program, bringing together their strongest pieces and demonstrating their skills and creativity across different forms of digital media.

Sports Medicine

Sports Medicine 1 Students have been exploring the digestive system through hands-on labs designed to help them better understand how the body processes food. These engaging activities have given students a practical perspective on nutrition and digestion. The class is now preparing to transition into a unit on nutrition, where they will learn about the latest dietary recommendations released this year, helping them connect classroom learning to real-world health and wellness.

Sports Medicine 2 Students have been studying common shoulder injuries, learning how they occur, how to recognize them, and how to manage them. The class will soon transition into exploring injuries that occur in the head, including concussions. Students will engage in simulated labs that replicate concussion scenarios, helping them understand the assessment, safety considerations, and proper care for head injuries in a hands-on, practical way.

Entrepreneurship

Year 1 - Discovery Academy They wrapped up their sales and marketing modules, focusing on the importance of both in business and what it takes to succeed in these areas.  They partook in class long negotiations.  It was great to see them thinking outside of the box to solve the issue while making the case for their choices.  Once they thought they solved it,  the parameters/inputs were changed and they had to make adjustments.  Finally, once getting a hang of 2 way negotiations, they were then dropped into a 3 way negotiation and the real fun began watching them get from one partner to trade with another.  They also started on their MSJC articulation tests. This next month we are moving into our Career Preparation with resumes, cover letters, interviews and job hunting techniques. Year 2 They worked on their MSJC articulation tests.  In a more advanced sales/marketing assignment, they had to find a place they wanted to travel to, do the research then create a travel brochure to the specifications provided.  The brochure was a marketing tool which they had to convince the reader to travel there. To add to the fun, they also had to create a 1 minute infomercial talking about the location they chose and try to sell and convince me to travel there.  Once completed with this activity we moved on to our Laser Engraving lessons.  Here they learned Adobe illustrator basics and how to operate the laser engravers where they had to make a small name plate using the 3 basic engraving/cut functions, a metal key chain, a lighted sign.  They will finish off next week with a customized puzzle they  will create and laser cut. Upon returning from break, they will work on one of the pre-apprenticeship marketing projects.

Theater Tech

This month, CTE Tech Theatre 1 is focused on their final hand sewing project. They will be constructing a nice little pillow using the different stitches they learned in this triad. Tech Theatre 2 is working on special effects makeup--how to make latex prosthetics like burn wounds, bullet wounds, and lacerations, as well as learning how to apply other kinds of special effects makeup like bruises and road rash!

CTE Alumni

"Davian McGee, a former CTSO President in 2023, is currently attending UC Davis, where he is finishing his junior year while pursuing his goal of becoming a veterinarian. During the Education for a Career Conference, I had the opportunity to reconnect with Davian and learn more about his future plans. He shared insights into his academic journey and spoke about how Tahquitz High School helped prepare him for college and the path he is on today! I wish him the best in his future!" - Mr. Ali

Daniel is a fantastic student who is committed to the production of TitanTV. His experience in leadership is a beacon of light in our pathway.

Sports Medicine

Bella Bustos

Bella has been selected as this month's CTE Sports Medicine Student of the Month. During volleyball season, Bella has demonstrated impressive balance, focus, and athletic skill on the court. She is always helping those around her and consistently stays on top of her responsibilities. Bella also excels in the classroom, showing that her hard work, dedication, and positive attitude extend beyond athletics. Her commitment to both her studies and her teammates makes her a standout student, and we are proud to recognize her achievements.

Entrepreneurship

Abraham Carrera

Abraham has an incredible entrepreneurial spirit.  His drive to succeed and make money is amazing.  He turned a small 3D printed keychain into several orders.  With the few dollars he made, he bought supplies to make his own custom tiles.  Starting with 12 tiles, he made enough to buy a larger box of 50 and sold 15 the 1st day covering all his costs.  This is all in a matter of 2 weeks, his drive is awesome.  He has truly taken what he has learned in this first year of class and put it into real life applications.  He is always asking questions and wanting to learn more.  With this drive, determination and positive attitude he will go far.

Technical Theater

Adrian Mendoza

Adrian is an outstanding student, consistent in both his Tech Theatre 1 course and the Acting/Directing Workshop. Adrian served as a light board operator for this year's theatre productions, was instrumental in set construction, and is one of Tech Theatre's active CTSO representatives. He's an outstanding student outside of CTE Tech Theatre, as he is also part of the CTE Construction pathway, too!
