Havannah First School Newsletter 4 10.11.2023

November 10th 2023

A Trial Newsletter!

Welcome to our new way of Newsletters! This Newsletter is a webpage rather than a PDF. We are trying this as we think it will be easier to read on your mobile devices and therefore more people will read and enjoy our news, information and pictures from school!

The contents list is interactive, so you can click on what you want to access and don't have to scroll through the whole document to find the information which you are looking for.

We'd be interested in what you think about this format - please feel free to let us know.

Harvest

Thanks to everyone who contributed to the Harvest collection. We were delighted to be able to give all donations to Newcastle Salvation Army. Jason Tasker from the Salvation Army attended the service with Y4 and their parents and carers and he told us how the food will be used to support refugee families and those most in need in our city. Sadly, the need for support increases year on year.

Our Year 4 team did a fantastic job to share information about Harvest and to make us all feel grateful for what we have as well as what we can share. Well done, everyone!

We are also very grateful for all of the warm winter coats which you sent in. These have now been given to the Cornerstone Project and I am sure that these will be helpful to people in our community this winter. Thank you.

Spooky Dining Hall Fun

Thanks to our wonderful Kitchen Team for making Halloween lunchtime so much fun on the final day of last half term. We had warming autumn soup, spooky biscuits and decorations in the hall which made everyone smile!

We are now looking forward to our Christmas Lunch!

Odd Socks Day

Next week is Anti-Bullying Week and we are raising the profile of this by having an Odd Socks Day. We will be using our odd socks as a talking point to highlight how it is OK to be different and to stand up to bullying.

This links with our ongoing No Outsiders work - all different and all equal!

Please encourage your child to wear odd socks for school on Monday 13th November and to be as different as they can in their choice of odd socks!

Thank you.

Children in Need Day

Friday 17th November 2023

Next Friday is Children in Need Day. Children are all encouraged to be Spotacular for the day! This means that it is a non uniform day and they can wear spots, or something spotty, for school.

In return, if you are able to, please make a donation to Children in Need directly to the charity using the link below.

Thank you for your support.

Havannah Headlines

We hope that you enjoyed receiving Havannah Headlines - hot off the press - last half term. The Y4 School Council Team researched, planned, wrote, edited and published this for everyone to read. They even included a word search to challenge you and keep you busy!

Well done, everyone!

Rise

Our Rise practitioners, Jackie and Jenny, have continued their work with us and will be back for more sessions later in this half term. They are helping the children to identify and manage their feelings and we have had fun learning new strategies to get into the Green Zone.

Outdoor Learning

Our outdoor spaces get very well used at school. Last half term, Y1 ended their learning with a whole day outdoors (in all weathers!) and explored the Forest School Area while enjoying a range of activities. Their behaviour and learning showed that they are all Havannah Heroes!

Safety on and Around our School Site

During the half term holiday, our School Safety Zone was improved with some new signage and road markings.

It is very clear where you should and shouldn't park on site and around site. For extra clarity, please observe the following:

  • You must not park on the double yellow lines on Primrose Lane.
  • You can not turn right out of the school site.
  • Please observe the speed limit of 5mph on site and 20mph on Primrose Lane.
  • Please do not park anywhere other than in the allocated bays in the car park.
  • The car park is one way only - please do not go against the one way system in order to save time or jump the queue - this is dangerous and unfair.

School Safety Zones are designed to keep everyone, especially our children, safe. This is a joint responsibility. Please play your part in keeping everyone safe.

Double Yellow lines - no parking at any time
No right turn from site
5mph on site

If you are parking off-site, please be aware that at least one of our parents has received verbal abuse and been intimidated rather aggressively by a member of the local community. This has been followed up by the relevant agencies, but we wanted to make everyone aware.

We are also aware of several low impact collisions between cars in our car park.

Please park and drive with extreme caution and in-keeping with the restrictions.

Y4 Residential

Our Y4 children return from their annual residential visit to Robinwood today. Almost all of the year group have taken part and have an amazing time learning new skills, becoming resilient and working as a team. As well as that, they have had the benefits of being outdoors in a beautiful environment with their friends and school staff. Thanks to the staff who have given up their own time to make this another success. And of course, thanks to the parents and carers who have supported us and their children to make this great opportunity work. Your children will sleep well tonight!

And yes, we are very jealous of the amazing breakfasts! More photos available on Twitter/X.

Please remember to keep an eye on the school and class Twitter accounts. You don't have to follow us or officially 'like' our posts - but it does make us happy when you do!

Stage Success!

Erin in year 4 is performing in Nativity The Musical next week at the Tyne Opera House. This is a great achievement and also a potential fun activity for any families who want to see the show and support Erin.

Well done, Erin, and good luck (I think we're meant to say 'Break a Leg!')
