Second Grade Learns About Helen Keller

A Hands-On Learning Experience

Mrs. Marston’s second grade class has been learning about Helen Keller and her life as part of their recent classroom studies.

To help connect their learning to the real world, students took a “field trip” around the school to locate and explore Braille signs throughout the building. Using their sense of touch, they were able to feel the raised dots and observe how Braille is used in everyday spaces.

This hands-on activity gave students the opportunity to experience an important form of communication in a meaningful way while deepening their understanding of the topics they’ve been studying in class.
