Amazon Wishlist

Whilst there is absolutely no pressure to do so, several parents have suggested we set up an Amazon Wishlist to enable friends of our school to make a donation. You can find a list of items we are wishing for for all of our children here:   https://amzn.eu/05Ut6Rud   Our wish list includes items for breaktimes and lunchtimes to make this time enjoyable, active and purposeful. If you have a suggestion of something that we might benefit from, we’d love to hear from you!   Please make sure you get items delivered directly to school. Thank you so much in advance.

New Toys and Games

Every year group has enjoyed a delivery of new toys and games for the children to play with. With the British weather proving to be less than ideal for outside fun, we wanted to make sure that wet playtimes and lunch breaks were a time of enjoyment and activity too!

Modern Foreign Languages

We continue to have language of the month, this month we will all be learning how to say hello in Hindi.

As part of the North East Festival of Languages, multilingual children in Years 2 - 4 have been invited to take part in the Language Calligram Celebration at home. Look at these lovely Italian and Welsh entries we have had so far!  Year 2 also created calligrams in their Spanish lesson using their knowledge of colours and Mandarin club created one altogether. You have until Friday 27th February to send in your entries if you would like to take part, please see the letter that has been previously sent out.

Also as part of the Festival of languages  'Together we fly' project, the Art Ambassadors are going to be making origami butterflies that we will then write multilingual messages to celebrate global friendship and unity. The exhibition of the butterflies will be on public display in Newcastle Civic Centre from April.

Year 3 Learning

Year 3 have really enjoyed their geography topic this half term which was all about extreme earth. Together, we have learned all about different natural disasters, where they are located, how and why they occur and also their impact. We really enjoyed learning all about tectonic plates and how they cause earthquakes and volcanoes. We loved experimenting with Oreo biscuits to show the different ways in which the plates move and explored which disasters occur with each movement.

Parent Support Groups

Gymnastics Club

Last week, our children received a talk from Gladiators champion Joe Fishburn on challenge and facing adversity. Your child has been sent home with a leaflet, he is currently promoting his new gymnastics club venue after a successful couple of years and full classes at the Royal Grammar School, Jesmond. They are offering free gymnastics sessions at their latest venue, Newcastle High School for Girls in Jesmond. If you are interested in getting your child started in gymnastics, you can check the link out below. Free Gymnastics in Jesmond. https://www.sportsclubnewcastle.co.uk/copy-of-home

Children's Mental Health Week

The 9th-13th February is Children's Mental Health Week. In an age-appropriate way, we will be talking about the importance of our mental health and how we can look after ourselves and each other. The theme this year is 'This is My Place' and the focus is on a sense of belonging and how important it is to belong to families and communities. You can find out more and get some ideas for talking at home by clicking on the link below.

Children and Families Newcastle

What is Children and Families Newcastle? Children and Families Newcastle brings services together so they can support children and families to get the help that they want and need. Children and families can access different services and activities in buildings they know in their local area. We want to make sure children, young people and families only have to tell their story once, and get the support they need, when they need it.

What is a Family Hub? There are Family Hubs across the city. Each hub has different things on that you can do, depending on what local families want and need. This could include;

  • Baby and toddler groups
  • Youth groups
  • Training opportunities
  • Childcare
  • Employability services
  • Children’s therapies
  • Mental health support
  • Health visiting
  • Community midwifery

First Aid and Medicines

MEDICATION IN SCHOOL: We can give children prescription medication in school if it is prescribed for four or more doses a day. We can also hold prescribed medication in school for allergies and chronic conditions. All medication requires paperwork and needs to handed to a member of staff. Contact us if you have any questions and we can advise you in more detail. Thank you.

FIRST AID AND BUMPED HEAD TEXTS: Children do sometimes fall, trip or collide with each other in school, particularly at playtimes. Trained first aid staff will treat any minor injuries in school and if we think that the injury is serious, we will treat it and contact you immediately. If children experience a minor head bump, we send you a standard text. This is because head injuries and symptoms can develop later and we want you to be aware that they have had a head bump at school. Do not panic if you receive one of these texts – if it is at all serious or concerning, we will ring you rather than text you.
