Students in Mrs. Osowski's Economics class met with executives from NBT Bank as part of a Civic Action Project connected to the New York State Seal of Civic Readiness.
Working alongside the Otselic Valley Concerned Citizens Group, students researched and discussed the potential effects that the loss of a local bank branch could have on residents, the school community, and student organizations. The project challenged students to examine a real-world issue affecting their community while considering possible solutions and alternatives. During their meeting, students shared their findings, asked questions, and explored banking options that may help support individuals and organizations impacted by the closure. The experience provided students with an opportunity to engage directly with business leaders and gain insight into how community concerns are addressed. The Civic Action Project is one of several components students complete as they work toward earning the New York State Seal of Civic Readiness. Through projects like this, students develop research, communication, and problem-solving skills while learning the importance of active civic participation.
