Dear Parents and Carers, Although this half term has been shorter than average, we have been working hard in school and have lots to celebrate and share. Please remember that Monday 1st June is a training day and so school is closed to children. Staff will be in school working on curriculum development and PE. We will be open to the children as usual on Tuesday 2nd June and look forward to seeing everyone. In the meantime, I hope that you all have a lovely week. The weather forecast looks very promising so I hope you all manage to take advantage of the fine weather and enjoy some family time!
Best wishes
Helen McKenna Headteacher
The 2026 CCN Run
Thank you to everyone who supported this event last Sunday. It was fantastic to see so many of you there. Well done for completing the run if you did. We celebrated the children's achievements in assembly on Monday and we thought about how our efforts will help Children's Cancer North. The event is a long standing tradition for us and in it's 43rd year for the charity. We think that this year's team was the biggest ever for our school and we are excited to see how much we have raised. I will share that information once we have it from CCN. Below is a gallery of pictures with lots of smiling faces for you to enjoy!
Outdoor Learning Day
Thursday 21st May was Outdoor Learning Day so we all made the most of the opportunity to take our learning outdoors! We have superb outdoor spaces at Havannah First so it's an easy thing to do - and the sun was (mostly) shining!
School Council Visit to TDR
The School Council enjoyed a fantastic visit to TDR training and apprenticeships earlier this week. They were shown around the facility and learned about the work that they do. We are looking forward to developing a strong relationship with @tdrtraininguk in future years as part of our enterprise and careers learning.
PTFA Discos
Thanks to the PTFA for organising and running special treats for everyone this term - two silent discos for KS1 and KS2 and an Easter Egg Hunt last half term for Reception! With the help of school staff too, the discos were great fun - everyone behaved beautifully, danced with enthusiasm and had a great time! The pictures below give you a snapshot of the fun we all had...
Author Visit
Local author, Naomi Barley came to school last week to share her stories with us and talk about her work as an author. She inspired lots of writing, drawing and reading during and after her visit. The children thoroughly enjoyed the visit and impressed Naomi with their enthusiasm, behaviour and knowledge. Thanks, Naomi, we hope to meet you again in the future!
Transition Workshops
Parents and carers of children in Reception and in Year 2 are invited to a transition meeting next half term. Moving to Y1 and to Y3 are the biggest jumps in a first school and it is useful for you to hear about the curriculum in KS1 and KS2 as well as the challenges ahead for the children. We hope that with support from home and careful planning in school, we can make the transition into the new Key Stages as smooth as possible. Please come if you are able to.
Reception parents and carers - Tuesday 30th June at 5.00pm Year 2 parents and carers - Wednesday 1st July at 5.00pm
Dates List
We have updated the dates list and added the sports days for each year group. It is attached to your email. It's a very busy half term coming up so make sure you are up to date! Thank you.
