A Message from the Headteacher

Please see the link above - Easy Fundraising can work for Birkwood!

Welcome back to the Summer Term! You’ve guessed it – we have LOTS going on at Birkwood and we’re hoping for the sunshine to appear regularly to help us! Keep an eye on the news for dates as they are constantly supplemented with new entries. A new term will bring new topics and a raft of new knowledge – I know you’ll be hearing about all of this at home!

This term will mark the final Summer for our Year 6 stars at Birkwood – I know that they will continue to do us proud as ever.

We have admitted 5 new children this week. Meeting new families (some of whom I may have worked with in previous years) is always a thrill! I welcome and re-welcome you to Birkwood!

We hosted SEND parents group this week. Please remember our safeguarding and inclusion staff are available when needed. Our relationships with home and families are a source of great pride and the key to ensuring safety and success for the wonderful children with whom we work. Yet again, and importantly – I thank our families for the support we receive! This support is huge for everyone at Birkwood and is gratefully received.  I know I keep saying this but I feel it’s important to recognise one of school’s most special things – our families!

FS2/ Reception Berry held their open classroom session this week. Thank you to Miss Sabin & the team and to those families who were able to attend.

On the sporting front, our Y5/6 girls showed 100% effort on a tricky pitch at Milefield. A 5-2 victory was a great reward for their endeavour. Thank you again for the dynamic duo’s hard work. Coach Marshall & Mr. Walton remain on a roll!

Our Golf Stars came 2nd in the competition this afternoon, some great fun was had and everyone left with a smile on their face. Well done to them!

News from the best sport - Next Monday (20th April) is Cricket Day at Birkwood! All children in Years 1-6 will be receiving a cricket session with Yorkshire CCC so please send children to school in PE Kit for the day.

Monday is Cricket Day

Polite reminder would Parents collecting Nursery Children, please don’t allow older children to disrupt the outdoor area. I know the 15 minute time difference can be a challenge but would ask that the area is undisturbed as it’s often been tidies ready for the next day. Thank you for your understanding. Lots of our Nursery Children received notification of a place at their new school (or indeed here of course) as it was Reception Offer Day yesterday – I am delighted that we look to be full for September, a fabulous acknowledgement of the support we receive that I mentioned earlier.

Next Week will be great. Thursday is a day out of the norm – it’s St. George’s Day and we’ll be in red and white to raise money with our School Council – please see the letter sent earlier. We will also be attending the St. John’s Church Music Festival at 5pm on Thursday! A first for them and us – all 3 Cudworth Schools are performing! This should be a lovely celebration of our village. I am excited!

SEND Support from Barnsley LA - we have been asked to share these opportunities. Take them up!

Breakfast Club is now open at 7:30 each morning. The cost will be £3.00 due to additional running costs.

Have a wonderful weekend. The cricket season has arrived so I’m a little giddy! Enjoy some family time (and hopefully some sunshine.)
