OTHER IDEAS:
- Either cancel Paramount+ and make sure they know why! — OR continue to stream and boost the views.
- Rate the show on Rotten Tomatoes and IMDB to combat the review bombing.
- Interact on social media. Tag Paramount on whatever platform you use and tell them how much you loved STARFLEET ACADEMY. Follow fan accounts, share posts, and boost engagement.
- Spread the love wherever you can; at the grocery store, on your car's back window, in your family's group chat, on your uncle's billboard. BE LOUD.
- Create. Whatever that might look like for you: reviews, zines, fan art, gigantic metal sculptures.
“I'm sad the show was cancelled, but there are more important things to fight for right now.”
Absolutely, but for 60 years we have turned to STAR TREK for comfort when the world outside is dark. This universe shows us what humanity looks like at its best. Now — perhaps more than ever — we need Gene Roddenberry's vision of a brighter future and Nahla Ake’s message of healing through empathy.
"It won't work. This is a waste of time. Just let it go."
What’s the worst that happens? The people making these decisions don’t change their minds? That’s okay. Fans weren’t able to save Enterprise in 2005 — but their efforts are part of the show’s legacy. Even if you believe it fruitless, do it to honor fandom history. Do it to show the writers, the actors, the producers, and everyone involved in making SFA that both their work and their message matters.
“If this is what Star Trek has become, I'm glad it’s cancelled.”
What do you mean? Certainly not that it’s too “woke” — being woke is sort of a cornerstone of the franchise. Too gay? Our fandom literally created the term “slash”. Men in skirts is a step too far? It’s called a skant and they wore them in TNG too. Oh, it’s specifically a Klingon in a skirt that’s the issue? Part of Jay-Den’s story is challenging the idea that any culture exists as a monolith. The cadets are too immature? Remember Finnegan, the Nova Squadron, and even Cadet Jean-Luc Picard? Who described himself as "a damn fool. Selfish, ambitious, very much in need of seasoning."
"I don't have a problem with any of that. The writing just sucks."
Our fandom also has a long history of hating every new iteration of STAR TREK; it’s part of our culture. It’s okay you don’t like the show. Truly. I’d still ask you to fight for it — if not for its potential to grow and evolve, then for your fellow Trekkies who did enjoy it. It’s our 60th anniversary and we’re only here because of fans who organized and fought to save it; you don't have to like SFA to honor that legacy.
