last call for the little give!

We have already reached our goal of raising $5,500 by the end of September, but we didn't want anyone to miss the chance to climb aboard the little give train! PTO is able to do things like donate towards food costs for the 8th grade P.E. camping trip (see photos and recap under "Activity Highlights" below) because of your generous donations. Thank you so much for supporting the North community through this fundraiser. Stay tuned for a full report in next week's newsletter!

PTO Meeting Wednesday, October 4 @ 6:30 p.m.

Ways to engage with PTO

There are a lot of opportunities to help support the North community:

  • Come to the PTO meeting on Wednesday, October 4, at 6:30 p.m. in the North cafeteria.
  • Two or three volunteers are needed for picture retakes on Thursday, October 12, from around 7:40 - 11:30 a.m. You're primarily shuttling kids around as they wait for their pictures. Click here to let us know if you can help.
  • We're looking for someone to join the PTO weekly newsletter team! Previous experience with MailChimp is a bonus, but absolutely not required. This is a great way to stay in touch with what's happening and promote the kids, teachers and opportunities that make North a great place to go to school. Send us an email to find out more information.
  • Want to be the PTO social media coordinator? Facebook and Instagram are a great way to stay in touch with North families. This is a very flexible and creative role. Send us an email to find out more information.
  • We need a point person for both our Back to School Barbecue and the End of Year Ice Cream Social. We now have a template for both of these events which we hosted for the first time this year. They are very manageable and we've had terrific volunteer support. This would be a great position to recruit a friend and do together. Send us an email to find out more information.
  • We'd like to offer a low-key parent social. This would be a casual weeknight event where North parents can meet each other. Want to head it up? Email us for more information.

  • 7th/8th Softball -The girls lost to Borah on Tuesday but beat Timberline 11-9 on Thursday.

  • 9th Girls Volleyball - 9th grade junior varsity girls beat Riverglen 2-1 at home yesterday. The game was intense and everybody was playing their absolute best! The 9th grade varsity girls defeated West last week and South and Riverglen this week. 9th grade varsity is undefeated (and won every match in two sets) and ranked first in the standings. Great job, volleyball Vikings!
  • BBMTB -This past weekend, 103 Boise Brave Mountain Bike Team members traveled to Lake Fork, Idaho just south of McCall, to compete in the JUG Jamboree Race at Jug Mountain Ranch, our 4th race of the 2023 season. This year's course had the same start and finish, but utilized Basic Training Tail to climb along with Doe Joe & Rolling Rock trails to descend, making it the most popular course of the season! With just under 800 feet of elevation, this 5 mile course rocked! The Boise Brave Mountain Bike Team has wrapped an undefeated regular season with four 1st place WINS!!! Top five finishers make it to the podium: Female 7th grade: Anna Streif (3rd), Wesley Naeve (4th); Female Freshmen: Hailey Filler (3rd); Female Freshmen in JV1: Alex Beard (4th); Male 7th Grade B: Oliver Holloway (4th); Male 8th Grade A: Cole Ohrmund (3rd); Male Freshmen: Kyle Kovarik (3rd). We now have 2 weeks to prepare for the State Championship at Bogus Basin on Saturday, October 7th. Races start at 9:00 am for middle school and 10:30 am for high school; varsity categories start just after 3:00 pm. There's more information here if anyone would like to venture up the hill and cheer loudly for your Boise Brave Mountain Bike Team!

8th Grade Camping Trip

Every year the 8th grade P.E. students go on a camping trip. For the first time this year, all students can participate. (In previous years, the trip was only offered for 8th graders that had P.E. in the fall semester.) Here's the report from Mr. Miller and Mr. Scott: "The 8th-grade outdoor camp was a massive success this year. Eighty students were able to travel to Garden Valley and spend two nights/three days out in the elements learning all sorts of new skills. The students were required to build their own shelters, start their own fires (using farrell rods), cook their own food (thank you PTO for the food donation), and meet/socialize with people outside of their normal friend group. During the day they learned bushcraft skills, archery, how to fly fish, white water rafting safety, and the local Forest Service instructed about fire safety. They were also taught by a biologist about the local animals in the area and an archaeologist taught/allowed them to learn and try ancient hunting weapons. Our students were fantastic."
