Ysgol Tir Morfa - Newsletter

FRIDAY 15th May 2026

Dear Parents and Carers,

What a wonderful week it has been in school. A huge congratulations to our football team, who represented us brilliantly at the North Wales Special Schools Football Tournament in Llandudno on Wednesday — their teamwork, enthusiasm and sportsmanship made us all proud.   Well done to Dosbarth Siabod and Dosbarth Tryfan who had an inspiring time at Ruthin Craft Centre, taking part in creative workshops exploring textiles and screen printing. We are also incredibly proud of the two pupils who represented the school at the Rhyl Youth Voice Council on Tuesday. They spoke with confidence, maturity and a real sense of responsibility — a fantastic example of pupil voice in action.   Thank you to all pupils and staff for another great week of learning and achievement. Wishing everyone a lovely weekend.

Kind regards,

Susan H. Roberts

Our Week at Tir Morfa
Dosbarth Tegid had a great 'what is in the box' session this week. Lots of ‘what IS this?’ in the box to go with our word of the week and then fun and games squirting the fire with the syringe to tie in with our topic of people who help us!
Dosbarth Lleuad have spent time working on their communication skills this week, playing alongside each other and life skills, such as being responsible in hanging up their own bags/coats and washing up 👏
Famau visited B&Q to look for seeds and used The Three Sisters planting method to plant young vegetable plants.
In Dosbarth Alwen we have been enjoying Maths week. We have taken part in number games, number songs and activities to help us learn. Da iawn Dosbarth Alwen!
Tryfan have had a busy community focused week creating podcasts, getting fitted for fire training next week and clearing the community garden at VIBE in Rhyl.
Aled Class have been working on their communication skills this week.
Siabod pupils enjoyed a Workshop at Ruthin Craft Centre where they learned new skills designing and creating a giant replica of the Royal Game of Urm.
Enfys have been making monkeys using paint and craft materials.
Lots of smiles in Dosbarth Haul this week and some great communication. Bendigedig!
Brenig have been carrying out experiments with rocks this week. We made predictions and recorded our results in different ways. Who would've thought that a rock could float? We found hard and soft rocks too!

Information & Other Events

Attendance Information for Parents and Carers

As part of our continued focus on attendance this year, we have decided to share attendance data regularly with parents and carers through our newsletter. Attendance remains one of our school priorities, and we believe that sharing this information helps keep everyone informed and working together to support our pupils. In Wales, the Welsh Government defines good attendance as 95% or above. Attendance of 90% or below is classed as persistent absence. These benchmarks are used nationally across schools in Wales. We would like to reassure families that we fully recognise that many pupils at YTM have significant health or medical needs which may make it difficult, or sometimes impossible, to meet these targets. As a school, we understand this and want to be very clear that no parent or carer should feel pressured or judged where absences are due to genuine health-related reasons. Our intention in sharing attendance data is simply to ensure transparency and awareness of our overall school attendance and the expectations placed upon us as a school. We value our strong partnership with families and appreciate your continued support in helping pupils attend whenever they are able to do so. If you would like to discuss attendance in relation to your child, please do not hesitate to contact the school - we are always happy to work together to provide the best possible support.
