Rector's Message
Welcome back after the Easter break. Our senior pupils are now well underway with their Qualifications Scotland exams, and it has been encouraging to speak to so many young people who feel relieved to have their first exams completed and pleased with how the papers have gone so far. This term we have welcomed Mrs Ahmed back to the English Faculty following her Maternity/career break. Mrs Ahmed works on a Monday and Tuesday. We also welcomed Mr Sultan to the Maths faculty. We are still recruiting for posts to start in August and more information will follow in due course. It was also lovely to welcome so many parents and carers to our S3 Parents’ Evening on Tuesday, and thank you for your continued support and engagement. This term is a particularly busy one, with planning already underway for the new timetable for next session. We are very much looking forward to welcoming our new S1 pupils in August. A number of transition events are taking place, and our staff are currently working closely with our cluster primary schools, with subject teachers visiting P7 classes to support a smooth and positive transition to secondary school. N5 English
Mrs Meikle's National 5 English class were consolidating their learning for their upcoming exam. The class were given a list of products that they had to choose from and then create a revision tool for the text they have been studying. They presented their products which included games, interpretive dance and memory cards to Mr Black and Mrs Beatie who were delighted to be entertained by the students. The winning group, Jonah Bruce, Philip Matusiewicz, Rhys Oram and Antoni Donnachie created a short film of 'The Lottery' by Shirley Jackson. The team were very pleased with their easter eggs as their prizes.
S1 Enterprise Challenge: The Luvians Ice Cream Project
We were delighted to welcome Emili from Luvians Ice Cream to the school on Wednesday, 29th April. She delivered a fantastic presentation to all S1 pupils, providing a "real-world" look at how a local business operates using the 4 P’s of Marketing (Product, Place, Price, and Promotion). This visit marks the launch of an exciting enterprise competition for our S1 year group. The Challenge Pupils are now working in teams, in business, to develop a new ice cream flavor and a comprehensive advertising strategy. The winning creation will be professionally produced and sold in Luvians shops! Project Requirements To succeed, pupils must apply the business concepts discussed in Emili's talk:
- Market Research: Identifying target audiences and ensuring the product is accessible and relevant to customers.
- Branding & Collaboration: Creating a visual identity that blends the established Luvians brand with our Bell Baxter school identity.
- Financial Planning: Considering production costs, especially when using premium ingredients (such as the current "Dubai Pistachio" trend), to ensure sensible pricing.
- Promotion: Designing a campaign to launch the product within the school, across Cupar, and to the wider community.
Final Judging The Finalists will present their final business plans to Miss Steven and Emili at school in June. We are looking forward to seeing the creativity, teamwork, and entrepreneurial thinking our pupils bring to this challenge. Good luck to all our S1 entrepreneurs!
Pupil Leadership Updates
Over the next few weeks we are launching a series of pupil leadership opportunities across the school. S1/2 Opportunities For pupils in S1 and S2, we will be looking to appoint class reps for each PSE class. These reps will be responsible for leading on Pupil Voice within their class, and contributing the class view on school improvement through the Pupil Council. They will contribute to team planning for House events and inter house competitions, and be significant contributors to promoting a positive ethos across the school. S3/4 Monitors We have recruited S3 Monitors to step up and cover duties normally associated with prefects during the period of Exam Leave. For this session, the team will continue to be involved as House Leads as they move into S4, working alongside the House Council, and supporting the House and Vice Captains. Junior House Captains New S5 pupils will have the opportunity to apply to be Junior House Captains in June 2026. This role will involve supporting the House Captains to plan and deliver House Competitions. They will also help organise House Council meetings and priorities. Pupil Council We are about to re-launch our Pupil Council following a trial run this session. This will be made up of 2 reps per house per year, S1 to S4, plus the House Captaincy team and will be appointed by House Captains/Vice Captains by end of June 2026. The Pupil Council will meet regularly in sub groups to take forward a whole school priority and will work with class reps to ensure all young people have a voice within the school Senior Pupil Captaincy Team All current S5 pupils should have by now received details of how to apply for our senior positions, School and House, MVP, Global Goals, Rights Respecting, and Wellbeing Captains. This information is also available on the S5 year team. Interviews for these positions will take place on 27/28/29th May. MVP (Mentors in Violence Prevention) Training As we say goodbye to our S6 MVP team, we are now looking to recruit current S4 pupils to carry out the role of MVP mentors next session. Further details of this will be communicated at the end of study leave.
S3 Pupils Studying Chemistry
All S3 pupils who are studying Chemistry are invited to a talk by Dr Andrew Storey, who is a consultant physician with NHS Fife. He would like to speak to any chemistry students who have an interest in or would like to hear more about a career in Medicine, even if it is not something they have considered previously. There will also be the opportunity to ask questions. Anyone who would like to attend or wants more information, should speak to their chemistry teacher or Mrs Cameron in room 323
