Housing Element is in Substantial Compliance with State Housing Element Law

The Town of Portola Valley received a welcome letter from the State Department of Housing and Community Development (HCD) on January 30, 2024. HCD’s letter states the Town’s Housing Element, adopted by the Town Council at its regular meeting last Wednesday, January 24, 2024, is in substantial compliance with State Housing Element Law and that it addresses the statutory requirements that were outlined in HCD’s July 24, 2023 letter. With a Housing Element found in substantial compliance and no further modifications needed, the Town can now focus on the implementation of the programs that support the goals and policies of the Housing Element.

Presentation to the Towns Bicycle, Pedestrian, & Traffic Safety Committee by C/CAG

The City/County Association of Governments for San Mateo County (C/CAG) will be giving a presentation at the Bicycle, Pedestrian, & Traffic Safety Committee meeting on their Countywide Local Roadway Safety Plan (LRSP). Community members can join the Bicycle, Pedestrian, & Traffic Safety Committee meeting at 8:15 AM on Wednesday February 7th.

CERT Basic Skills - Winter 2024

Woodside Fire Protection District is hosting a CERT Basic Skills Class so you can help yourself, your family, and your community when disasters strike and professional response systems could be overwhelmed.

Classes run for seven Thursday nights 6:30-9:30pm February 8th through March 21st and One Saturday 9:00am-4:00pm March 23rd for Skills Day & Simulation

Woodside Fire – Fuel Mitigation Ordinance

The Woodside Fire Protection District will hold the first reading of the Fuel Mitigation Ordinance on February 27th, 2024. You can view the ordinance here.

Winter Storm Preparedness and Sandbag Station in Portola Valley

As the rainy season starts it is good to be prepared for winter storms. The town has resources to help. You can review the Winter Storm Preparedness page for tips on how you can protect your home. Click here to view the page.

The Town of Portola Valley provides a complimentary emergency supply of sandbags to help its residents protect property from flooding during the rainy season.

The self-serve sandbag station is located at Portola Valley Town Center along the southern driveway, across from the basketball courts. The station is accessible daily and will remain available through the end of the rainy season. Learn more about the sandbag station here.

This is also an advisory to Town residents to please notify Town Staff if you see a downed tree, or other hazard, that blocks a trail or a roadway. During regular business hours, call 650-851-1700 x200 (8:30 am to 5:00 pm, Monday to Friday). On weekends or outside business hours, please call the County Dispatch at 650-363-4000, who will then alert Town staff, authorized members of the Public Works Committee, or the Fire Department. County of San Mateo Certified as “Welcoming Place”

The County of San Mateo has been recognized as a Certified Welcoming place by Welcoming America, becoming the first county in California to achieve the distinction for its commitment to immigrant inclusion and belonging.

The County achieved Welcoming America’s 4-star Certified Welcoming designation, the only county in the nation to achieve the rating, and one of only 21 cities and counties in the United States. The program assesses local governments against the Welcoming Standard on their efforts to include and welcome immigrants in all areas of civic, social and economic life.

The Portola Valley Farmers Market will be held rain or shine. The market is open from 2 - 5:30 PM each Thursday.

Feb 15 - Cookie Decorating at the Farmers Market

The Portola Valley Library will be hosting a free cookie decoration for kids from 2pm to 4pm at the Farmers Market.
