The Blast

City Manager Dennis' Weekly Update | March 25, 2026

Last week, Public Works oversaw the work at Firth Park where the small trees growing from the hillside were removed; their lower branches were hanging over the fire pits in a way that was too close for comfort. This was actually a service request that a resident submitted; we encourage residents to use the My Brisbane app to do so when they're out and about and notice something on City property that could use some attention.

City Council 2026 Priority Setting Study Session Recap

The City Council held its second annual Priority Setting Study Session on Saturday, March 21, 2026, at the Doubletree Hotel in Brisbane. The purpose of this session was to guide staff regarding project selection that aligns with established goals, enhance public understanding of the Council’s strategic direction, and ensure the City allocates limited resources to the areas of greatest need.  During the previous year’s Priority Setting Session, three primary objectives were identified: 1. Maintaining the fiscal stability of the City, 2. Improving maintenance for existing city facilities and infrastructure to assess long-term usage opportunities, and 3. Establishing a comprehensive volunteerism initiative. Both the fiscal health and city facilities objectives remain ongoing priorities. This year, our volunteer program known as Brisbane Cares, was successfully launched.   Following this year’s study session, key recurring themes emerged, including continuing to prioritize the fiscal health of our City, investing in our public facilities and critical infrastructure, creation of affordable housing opportunities, and focusing on economic vitality initiatives. See the meeting video below. The City Council will review and potentially adopt these priorities at their April 2, 2026 City Council meeting.

Merchants on Visitacion Ave. have been invited to a meeting at the Brisbane Inn on Thursday, March 26th starting at 3:30 PM. They'll be joined by Councilmember Cliff Lentz, Chamber CEO Madison Davis, City Manager Jeremy Dennis, and staff to provide thoughts & views on the “business” of Visitacion Ave., especially as it pertains to how Visitacion Ave. can be improved - from parking to enhancements that support local business and the overall streetscape. And Visitacion Ave. has been quite busy with the biannual tree trimming of the Raywood Ash trees along the downtown drag and San Francisco Street. That work will be concluding tomorrow (Thursday, or Day 4) on the 200-300 block west side of the road.

Thanks for your patience as Visitacion is spruced up!

Leash Law in Brisbane - Violators will be Actively Cited

On March 17th, the Brisbane Police Department started a POP project (26-01) in regards to complaints of dogs being off leash at the Community Park. They soon after began foot patrols and as of March 24th, exactly one week later, they have given 8 verbal warnings to dog owners whose dogs were in violation of BMC 6.04.060. They will continue providing warnings the rest of this week and start actively citing on Sunday, March 29th. Here's a video from our Comms Team to remind residents that dogs must be on leash in the Community Park and any public street, sidewalk, school ground, or public property for that matter. The only location where they can run and play off leash is in the City's Dog Park.

Artful Bench Voting Now Open, Closes 4/13

The Public Art Advisory Committee is seeking to establish an artfully designed bench program that combines public seating with site-specific artwork, enhancing both the functional and aesthetic value of public spaces throughout the community. This program provides opportunities for local, regional, and national artists, increases civic engagement, and complements the City’s age-friendly goals.

An RFP was published in November 2025 and a total of 52 responsive proposals were received. Responsive proposals were reviewed by the Public Art Advisory Committee in January and February 2026. The Committee evaluated proposals based on alignment with Brisbane’s public art mission as well as the six Brisbane-specific public art criteria that were developed during the master planning process. At their February 24, 2026, meeting, the Committee ranked proposals and established a short-list of artists to be considered for three locations including Mission Blue, the Dog Park, and the Marina. Now, they need the public’s help!

The Committee is asking the public to weigh in on their preferred artist for each of the three locations: Mission Blue, the Dog Park, and the Marina. It should be noted that the Committee will receive the public’s voting results and will make a final determination regarding the artists selected for the project. They will then make a formal recommendation to the City Council and will work directly with the artists on the final designs.
