This week in nursery we began learning about life cycles. To support our learning, we have been reading The Very Hungry Caterpillar and talking about how animals grow and change. The children were fascinated watching time-lapse videos of caterpillars emerging from cocoons, and we also read a story about baby chicks hatching from eggs before watching a video of chicks breaking out of their shells.
On Thursday we celebrated World Book Day and continued our love of stories by taking our reading activities outside. The children enjoyed a book treasure hunt, finding mini books with letters inside and using their knowledge of each other’s “special letters” to deliver them to the right friend, before relaxing with some book browsing time outdoors.
We had a fantastic turnout for our Read, Play, Connect session on Tuesday, where we share our love of books through stories and activities together. Please do come along again next week. We really value the chance to get to know the children’s families better, and the children love having you in class to help them.
The sunshine has made such a wonderful difference this week, everyone has been feeling a little brighter and we have loved spending more time learning outdoors. A small group also had their first visit to the “big yard” to practise climbing safely on the climbing frame ladder, and they all did fantastically!
Another busy and joyful week of learning together, with lots of curiosity and outdoor adventures along the way.
